I'm not a math wiz and don't understand probability at all, but bear with me on this theory.
Herxing happens with hard treatment. Bugs die. But, if you have several infectious diseases that follow this herxing pattern, could you be herxing ALL the time?
There are 4 of us in my family. 4 of us sick with Lyme, Bart, Erlichia and Babs.
I think of this because my husband is having a monster crabby herx, the little guy is having sensory issues and needing to hit us like crazy and I'm having extreme join pain/sensitivity (which doesn't lend itself well to having a 5 year old hang all over you).
Isn't it possible to have a three day Lyme herx, followed by a 6 day bart herx, followed by a 4 day babs herx, etc? Do they always overlap?
I also ask this, because people who challenge us about our lyme dx tend to start here. They say things like, "how can you be herxing again? You were herxing last week."
It seems like I get a day of a break and then something starts in again. But, I'm usually unable to enjoy that good day because something is up for someone else. Making it all lyme & co all the time.
*sighs*

Also if not a herx all the time, what about flares mixed with herxes? I mean to me it all sort of runs together. So I can't tell whether I'm herxing or just flaring.
I have always been amazed by the few that can tell exactly when they are having a herx; how many days it last, etc. Some seem to be able to identify it like clock work.
Peacemama, I can't imagine the whole family involved; but even with just me, it does seem like lyme and co all the time.
Even though I am feeling better the last few weeks, its still "something" lyme everyday!

According to at least some of the LLMD's we have seen, it is possible to herx all of the time. Unfortunately, that is supposedly what happens to my daughter.
I think it makes sense if you have a very high bacterial load to begin with.
It is very hard to sort out whether it is a downward progression of disease or a herx.

I'm with you guys on this. I am never able to discern any clear cut pattern...herx or illness.
I just feel bad all of the time.Never have a clearing, never. That said, was undiagnosed for at least 18 years...so the theory of a high bacterial load also applies IMO.....

But, at the same time, I seem to be able to tell the difference between a bart herx (rage or suicidal feelings with me, kinetic behavior from the kids) and the deep bone pain/air hunger for babs.
But I don't know. Thanks for your responses, so far.
Yeah, Sutherngirl, it is a flippin nightmare.

- A lot of what some patients interpret as a herx, quite often, is simply (or complexly) feeling awful from the disease. Lyme is one of the most toxic infections known to man. There are dozens of ups and downs a day, even under the best controlled circumstances.
As hard as that has been to accept, it has given me a freedom to attribute much to "just the way it is - for now." If there are self-care techniques I know that will help, I employ those. If nothing is left in my bag of tricks, I just try to breathe and wait for the next wave to catch to a smoother ride. -
