I'm happy for you. I look forward to that day where I can exercise like I used to.
Some here like to say stay away from Whey (worries about mercury), but it's some of the best stuff for you in my opinion. My body can't function at all without it. I tried.
Glutathione depletion makes you feel like crap. That's for sure. Your amino acids in general get all thrown off as well because of Lyme, etc.
Congratulations!

I wish I could take it. I bought 3 expensive containers and I react to it. For me, I think it's a dairy sensitivity issue. I do not do well with casein and they include non fat milk in the ingredients.

- Whey, if from cattle raised without pesticides, can be great. But it also can be a full week's food budget (or two) for one canister of whey powder.
Protein, in general and from many sources, helps our bodies make glutathione and that helps the liver detox . . . protein's amino acids help our brain, our hearts, our muscles, etc. Protein doesn't have to be just from whey.
Taurine (found mostly in muscle meats) is vital, too. Grass fed beef, buffalo, lamb . . . free range and organically fed chicken . . . WILD fish (google for the mercury content. Wild Salmon is good). And, of course EGGS are just great (when from humanely-raised chickens).
And then all the legumes . . . and some grains: even quinoa and Black Chinese Forbidden Rice have a good protein content.
Vegetarians and vegans should consider supplementing TAURINE, as well as B-12 and L-Carnitine. -------------------

visit http://www.trueprotein.com/ and make yourself a custom formula. I recommend the cold filtration whey isolate with any natural premium flavor (strawberry is my favorite). It is far cheaper than any other source of whey ISOLATE that I know of. (less than $8/lb). Good for people who are lactose intolerant, which is probably most people that are taking antibiotics.
The first time you order you can get a plastic bottle, and then save money on subsequent orders by just getting a bag and refilling the orginal bottle.
Oh yeah, the other thing about whey isolate that's great: the source really doesn't matter. All those pesticides you're worried about? All gone when the fat is removed.
Whey CONCENTRATE, on the other hand, still has significant amounts of lactose and fat in it, being only about 80% protein. So beware of that.

I am interested in this. Is there one that taste pretty good, that doesn't have to be mixed with milk?
How much and how often do you drink it?
I have a lot of muscle wasting and wonder if this would help to rebuild muscle?
I also try to eat foods that are high in protein, but still don't think I get enough protein.

You may have seen this similar thread i wrote about this:
it helps me feel alive first of all, and it takes away my post exercise pain because its feedling my muscles.
Some use it for glutothione production which has shown to kill or eliminate mycoplasma infections with just whey protein alone.

Do you happen to have a link to the study you referenced regarding mycoplasma and whey? I would love to read this.
Also, do you take Vitamin D and calcium? If so, how much of each every day? Thanks!!!!

This stuff really tastes the best...and "any whey" is another brand.
Dr. Cheeney seems to push his own special undenatured whey thats very expensive.
I have been experiencing results with just a high quality over the counter whey product like the ones above.
I encourage you to try. I can feel my strength again. My body feels more in balance with eating this off balanced diet IE high protein 0 sugar!

By the way, the good powers only mix with water because they contain such high protein that the milk wont take any more

lymeherx I use a great protien powder ves pro nitroplex which I find cheapest at online world.
What bothers me is that that you are on Adderall which is a pure clean amphetamine salts which I have worked with before. I would like to see how you do without adderol as it can be a false feeling of being well. For most people at some point in time one will get a crash from taking amphetamines for a long period.
If you tolerate it well, great! But take note, processed, isolated whey protein usually has forms of processed free glutamate (the harmful part of MSG). If you're like me, if you take processed whey of any form, you get anxiety, depression, insomnia, and other issues similar to an MSG reaction. I ran into this issue when taking loads of the stuff as a supplement while weightlifting (nothing to do with Lyme). I switched to egg white protein, and had no effects from that.
If you do end up switching to egg white protein because of this sensitivity, several brands will work, but many of the flavorings they use in protein powders contain the same old processed glutamate, so you might try unflavored. I can recommend egg protein powders in PM if anyone cares, but don't want to sound like a spammer here, so I won't .
Good luck!

LymeHerx001,
Do you know for sure that it's the Whey that is helping you? Did you add anything else around the time you started the whey? Just wondering, since you also changed your diet and I saw you're on the Adderall too.

Congrats on working out again! It's the best! It took me years to get back to exercise again, but when it happens, it's like...amazing! Exercise is the key to recovery, no question.
The whey actually makes the amphetamines work even better as raising your glutathion helps the adderall by giving your body more energy. I know I have done the same thing of taking adderall and good protien powder.
It was a great feeling while it lasted.

It's very user friendly for people with food allergies.
And yesterday... I played pick-up basketball games for 1 hour at the gym.
I'm so excited that I got through it. And actually felt really good afterwards.
(My heart was racing a mile a minute while playing though. I take being "out of shape" to another level lol)

Some people also take it before bed. But if your taking it theraputically, dont eat any food with it.
This way it will be %100 absorbed, food tends to acidify your system and push the protein through faster which isint good.

Yes the adderall gives you a false sense of well being. I wasnt aware of that when I first started. Well now I just take it to be functional. I still feel better and still work out and after my workours I feel the best, especially when I hit the sauna.
So yes, pure amphetamines do make you feel BETTER, I wouldnt tell anyone not to try them for improving mood. They dont last all day but I dont really crash from them either and Ive been taking them for a year.
