I was diagnosed in 2004. I was sick for 1 year prior to DX. Currently I am taking Biaxin and Hydroxychlorquine with great success, but I have developed malabsorption syndrome. I am wondering if I should give my intestines a break. Has anyone ever stopped taking antibiotics and been lyme free?

You could pulse meds or take a break for a month or so and see what happens.

Well, I don't know about Lyme free, I've been feeling pretty good after going off abx. I hope it's because the Lyme is gone ...

More or less, taken several breaks and enjoyed symptom free days. It's good to give your body a break from this assault, productive IMO. But I'm a perfectionist and not stopping until every single symptom is gone. I know it's possible because I go days at at time feeling 97% again.

Many alternatives to abx here in the board. Do a bit of reading and then search for the alternatives that interest you.
Buhner offers many herbs to keep borrelia under control but for coinfections it's not enough.
Cowden has others products. Chinese TCM offer many alternative herbs, I swear some work very well for coinfections.
Do a search in the Raintree site. Or the Jernigan's products.
There is the Rife thread now going on for a while. Very good info inside too.
Another good place to look is Deseret Biologicals.
I used photons and nosodes (PE1 but with the same protocol of the Bionic users) and got my lyme in remission, now for 12 months.
there are others like the salt/ C, Marshall, but I wouldn't advise these for borrelia (my opinion).

If you've been ill since 2004 or prior - I don't think it will make you worse to take a break. I agree with Brussels. There are alot of alternatives to abx.
I'm working on getting well without abx. I think it can be done.

Brussels has good ideas. I also got well with photons and nosodes (Bionic 880). I have been off abx since Sept. 2008.
When I tried herbs, I liked the Buhner core protocol.

Have you been treated everyday for the past 6 yrs?? If so, and you have few symptoms, I would try going off, personally.
I stopped treatment after 4 yrs of straight abx. I've now been off of them for 5 1/2 yrs. Doing well!

Yes, I just transitioned my kids to the Cowden herbs and they are actually doing better than they were on abx. I feel that they will be cured but we are not quite there yet.
They were on abx for almost 2 years.

I stopped abx 4 months ago and have been rifing instead; it works fine for me. It's also more versatile--- i treat for coinfections i never tested positive for.
