I have been contacted by an MA Lyme Support group and they inform me that a local LLMD is Dr. Sam Donta. I called a # that they gave me but have not been able to speak to a live person. I got the URL for a website that doesn't seem to exist. Has anyone out there been able to see this MD? If so, how did you go about getting an appt. Help! only 3 weeks ABX left and the primary won't prescribe more. thank you. tom'smom

Yes. I've seen him. He has an answering service for appointments so you won't get a live body. The number is a Falmouth MA number that is just used for scheduling.
You'll have better luck with his email but he takes a few weeks. I'd suggest leaving a message.
Let me know if you want to do the email route. I can't post it publicly here but give me an email whereI can send you some information.

Hi,
I see Dr. D. I think he is wonderful. It is true that he can be hard to reach sometimes, but it's worth persevering. He doesn't have a secretary; often when I leave a message I get him calling me back. Like many of our LLMDs, his patient load is high.
At my last appointment, I asked him if he was still accepting new patients, and he said absolutely.

Can you give me his email and phone number. I am trying to set up an appointment. I was jsut told by my infectoius diesease doctor that he doesn't think i have an infection with live organisms. I know he is wrong. Thanks. Alex Duran

Hi,
Wow! I have been away from my email and did not know that some people had written directly to me! I did not mean to ignore you. I have just been away from email.
Yes, Dr. D. did check me for co-infections: bartonella, erlichia, babesia. However, I knew to ask to check for co-infections. So, maybe it is necessary to ask?
Altho, I asked him to check me for babesia and erlichia, and he himself added the test for bartonella.
He tested me for those before he moved from the hospital where he was; I do not know if he has changed testing protocol since leaving that hospital. I believe he would test you if you asked, as he did me.
I was on tetracycline in the very beginning of my treatment. I cannot remember the dose now - I am sorry. My response to tetra was as follows: 1) it helped me cognitively more than anything 2) I found the subsequent Biaxin and plaquenil much more helpful (but perhaps the tetra paved the way for the Biaxin to get at the Lyme so effectively.
Does anyone still need contact info for him?
You know, his "main" office is in Falmouth; he comes in to Boston once a week and rents an office from another doctor. I wonder if you could get in to see him faster if you saw him at his Falmouth office. The Boston days are always very crowded because so many people come from other parts of New England, and want to see him in Boston.
If someone were willing to travel to Falmouth, I wonder if he couldn't see you sooner/ be easier to find? I am just guessing here, I have no inside info. But it does make sense that he'd have more openings in Falmouth.
Let me know if you need his email, etc. I may not be able to get back on email until tomorrow night, but I will check back.
Warm wishes for feeling better to everyone

Hi, Lea,
I am sorry it took me a while to get back to this thread. I have encountered Zithro for the first time. WHAT a ride!!
To be honest, I am not certain precisely when he did all the bloodwork for the co-infections (my test results are buried in one of my file drawers. ) I think it was 2 years ago. He was still at the hospital where he used to be, before moving out to his own practice.
He ordered a test before that, and the blood lab messed up and we never got any results. So I came in again to have blood drawn, and then we got the results.
I know that negative results do not mean you don't have something. But, as well as testing negative for Erlichia and Babs, he really did not believe that I presented the profile of someone with either of those infections either.
I don't know what lab he is using now that he is not at the hospital where he was. I've had subsequent Western blots at my university health facility; they also re-tested me for Babesia, which came out negative again.
I never knew I could have requested my univ. to test me for any co-infections!! But they did, once I asked. My PCP ordered it; he is very helpful and is totally willing to go along with Dr. D and his recommendations. I know that I am extraordinarly lucky in this.
I hope that this helps. Sorry again for not getting back to you sooner!
Warmest wishes for feeling better!

PS
I didn't mention that he tested for Bartonella as well. I tested positive for that one. That's why I wrote that the other 2 were negative; but he did test for all three.

Henson & Joe, some LLMDs will treat coinfections with specific abx combos based on a clinical diagnosis, in addition to serology.
Do a search on Lymenet for specific meds that target Bartonella & Babs.
I took Tertacycline, Doxy, and Biaxin & Plaquenil for months and they did't help knock out my Bart or Babs.
