A friend is sick in Omaha Nebraska with Lyme and it has taken a long time to be diagnosed so is very sick. Any advise On who to go to in that area. I see a good one in KC, Mo but that Dr. is not taking new patients.

PM sent with some suggestions.
Your friend needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment! They are far and few between, unfortunately. Your friend needs to go where they are. I don't know of any in Nebraska. Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance": http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005 When calling for an appointment, have your friend ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this. Check the online state Lyme groups at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NebraskaLyme/info Maybe they can help. Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info): www.lyme-aware.org/nebraska.html The top LLMD, Dr.H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information. Have your friend read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
