Yes - I think it might have been mentioned in Jonathan Edlow's book, "Bull's Eye" that settlers in the eastern part of the US encountered it here in 1742 and someone remarked that it could become a problem some day.
If anyone has access to this book and can check, for my memory of this, great.
Then it was reported in Europe in the previous century. People presented with the ACA skin rash.
In one museum, mice from around 1893 were found to have spirochetes in their ears.

Since they're anaerobic bacteria, one reference I read pegged them at 400 million years old, from the Devonian period.
Interesting, actually, that they know how to survive on an oxygen planet. Too bad they learned how...
