http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/05/18/teen-blames-russian-accent-violent-seizures-on-lyme-disease/

So far don't like how ABC is handling the chronic Lyme case. The blog post use the words "rare" and I get a vibe from them like this case is a big mystery...

From my own research there's been plenty cases so far of girls with seizures and neurological symptoms. For instance the girl New York that had seizures and was on TV as well. http://wnyt.com/article/stories/s2530227.shtml?cat=300&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
The girl in the documentary "under our skin." And the girl from Dr. Phil show with Lyme disease. Also just found this article too.. http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/article/20120518/NEWS01/305180030/-Tick-paralysis-strikes-girl-2

I might've missed it, but I'm surprised no one put two and two together how all the people showing severe signs of tics and seizures always tend to be female.

Also scientific research already posted that Lyme can lead to autism, the symptoms that she was showing in the videos on the show. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/09/27/doctors-find-link-between-lyme-disease-autism/

I just love how the media always play stupid with stuff like this... News reporters, producers, and directors supposed to have degrees and do thorough research before doing a project like this. All the research is out there, but yet I see this utter dumbfoundedness so far from what I see in the article and the small video.

I understand that it's at least good that they have put this on TV. But I just find they did a poor job with the small video and article! Dr. Phil handled it a lot differently and even suggested that this could be possibly the next epidemic from their own research... I never got a vibe from Dr. Phil like this is a big mystery or they suggested that this is "rare."

We'll see how the full video plays out tonight... Hopefully there's more like showing a clip from under our skin or showing the statistics.... I may have jumped the gun from just going on the article, but I highly doubt it.

And be sure to blow up blog article with comments of your own experience or your own points you want to express.

Also since Google has really perfected their algorithm, to pick up the latest news on Lyme disease all you have to do is type in keywords "Lyme disease" and go down to the fourth line click "News for Lyme disease." Here's some directions to help you out. http://s18.postimage.org/4nf8zo461/lyme.jpg

You can pick up some really good information on Lyme disease this way. And if you look right of the link you'll see when that article was published. Lyme articles are published hourly!

Not a lot of people understand that when you click the "news for Lyme disease" link it takes you to the recent articles on Lyme, instead of reading through a bunch of websites about Lyme disease.

Pretty simple stuff, but I know there's a lot of people out there that are not computer savvy.

There's been a lot of good articles posted in the news feed that I haven't seenyone post on this forum and mdjunction, that's why I thought I'd mention this...

The TV Guide website mentions for this program: "a bacterial infection that causes strange behavior"

Oh, lovely. Why "strange"? Why "behavior"?

Why not serious symptoms?

They also discuss: Misphonia, a hatred of ordinary sounds. That's misunderstood but by the word they chose for it, this program may not clear it all up.

Remember - this program is intended to sensationalize. It's in every fiber of it's writing, the voice tone, etc. I think they want to make some people look like idiots.

I hope I'm wrong about this one but just the way it's described does not bode well.

At the blog link, I see where the author, himself, had lyme and writes that 3 days in the hospital and a round of abx cleared lyme for him.

So, he assumes, it's that simple for all, always. He seems to be blaming the patient for the seriousness of her case, and questioning the truth.

Did he ever think to actually research this topic (and realize this HIS experience was the rare one).

Sigh.

Sensationalize...

Keebler yeah you hit the nail right on the head with that word, most the stuff produced on TV is usually made to produce ratings and not actually get the real point across.

I saw a posting over on mdjunction by the mom saying she hopes they edit the story fairly. Mom said they asked alot of questions about "could she be faking it." The typical drama that people love to eat up and then forget about the bigger picture that should be received.

I made my comment over there on the article under the name Charles Zann, we'll see if it gets approved, lol. I try not to be too harsh so it doesn't get deleted, if you don't see it here it is...

quote:

Wow ABC reporters really haven't done your homework at all! You use the words "rare" and I get a vibe like this case is a big mystery to you...

From my own research there's been plenty cases so far of girls with seizures, tics, and neurological symptoms. For instance the girl from Le Roy New York that had seizure like symptoms and was on TV as well. The girl in the documentary "under our skin." And the girl from Dr. Phil show with Lyme disease. Also much recently a young girl Jenna Tomlins who suffered tick paralysis. Scientific research already posted that Lyme can lead to autism, the symptoms that she was showing in the videos on the show.

I just love how the media always acts naive with Lyme disease... News reporters, producers, and directors supposed to have degrees and do thorough research before doing a project like this. All the research is out there, but yet I see this utter dumbfoundedness so far from what I see in the article and the small video. I guess your first mistake was probably calling up the CDC who says everything is under control and her case is rare. Should I mention that CDC is being controlled by health insurance companies who don't want to pay for long-term antibiotics. Just recently Pennsylvania is trying to sign a bill that makes insurance companies pay for long-term antibiotics. And last time I heard Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal was investigating the CDC board of fowl play.

But hey I guess this is all too real to show on public TV, because people are already protesting in the "occupier movement" the greed and deception that is going on. Meanwhile people like me who have Lyme disease suffer because the whole reason is to make money off of us. Health Insurance is set up for profit not care, under our capitalistic government. But yet people in the 1% say everything is fine and it's working.

I understand that it's at least good ABC has put part of the Lyme epidemic on TV. But I just find they did a poor job with the small video and article so far! Dr. Phil handled it a lot differently and even suggested that this could be possibly the next epidemic from their own research... I never got a vibe from Dr. Phil like this is a big mystery or they suggested that this is "rare." We'll see how the full ABC show plays out tonight... Hopefully there's more like showing a clip from under our skin or showing the statistics... Some say the real statistics are that 300,000 people are being infected with Lyme disease each year now. And since we had such a mild winter, cases will be going up.

I live in southeastern Michigan, in the city, and somehow I got it. Probably got it fishing off an inland lake, but I was never out in the woods and I fished from a boat. No rash, just minor symptoms that escalated over a year into disabling symptoms. Luckily I never took many MDs diagnosis seriously, that consisted of just allergies, anxiety, psychosomatic, and lack of nutrition. Not one of the 10+ emergency room visits or MDs I visited suggested I do a Lyme test from my symptoms. I even wrote my symptoms down for them: pressure head, headaches, fatigue, sinus infection, food allergies, and arthritis. I explained to them how I've never been sick and I'm actually a healthy bodybuilder. Yet none of them put two and two together.

After a year passed my symptoms were becoming more disabling and I decided take matter into my own hands. I used the Internet as my guide, started researching my symptoms more thoroughly and connected the dots through a Canadian Lyme website canlyme.com. Finally I had something to go on and went to infectious disease doctor. Knowing that these tests come up false-negative a lot, mine did just that, but yet it showed that my parvovirus was high. I suggested to infectious disease doctor that these tests come up false-negative, she said no they don't. And said that parvovirus is causing all my symptoms and it will go away with time. I then said I'm going to get a second opinion through a Lyme literate doctor, that's where she became defensive and started saying nasty things about Lyme literate doctors.

After being treated with five months of antibiotics by a Lyme literate doctor, a year and a half of misdiagnosis, I'm slowly getting better. I find it horrible that most of the doctors in the US still say that long antibiotic treatment does not work when people are getting better all the time with this type of treatment. People are traveling all over to different states to just receive treatment. So far this has cost me thousands of dollars, not to mention not be able being able to work and have a steady income. Other people I hear it's reaching five figures, even six figures.

And just recently I read that the British government is conducting all Lyme blood testing in their top biological warfare facility, Porton Down.

Time to wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are you writing them before you've seen the show?

This was just a response to the article and video, not the show. The post was mainly made so people can find the article link from ABC and I got carried away. [Smile]

I thought it would be great if everyone could start posting their experience with Lyme in the comment section. It's obvious that people in high places are listening to us if the producers of ABC brought this girl on the show because of her YouTube videos.

I mean all we've been through you can probably understand that... We know that the CDC, government, and doctors are handling this wrong to begin with...

I did write:

I'm sorry this is the category they put chronic Lyme in, medical mysteries?

Even worse psychosomatic illnesses, the thing we hate most.

Category of people eating rocks and misophonia.

I dont know about you but I didn't like being called a psychosomatic nut when I went to the hospital.

At least they said the extensive treatment has been working... And they mentioned coinfections.

[shake]

But sad to say this is another short episode. I think they covered more in the blog article on their website. There needs to be a whole hour to talk about Lyme, 2 if the network lets them.

Just caught this in another post, some more teens with a mystery illness http://www.khou.com/news/health/San-Antonio-teens-catching-mysterious-illness-151546105.html

You think the doctors tested for Lyme disease yet? I swear to God [rant]

Oh yeah I'm not surprised they didn't approve my comment on the ABC article.

Okay, done ranting thinking positive thoughts for the rest of the day!
