SALVIA miltiorrhiza LINKS

----------------------------------------

SALVIA miltiorrhiza is also called Dan Shen or Danshen

As a support measure. It can be especially helpful as kidney support, under guidance.

There are many species of Saliva (sage). Several are used in herbal medicine. Each has different properties.

Clearly, NOT to be confused with:

"Salvia divinorum is a psychoactive plant which can induce dissociative effects and is a potent producer of "visions" and other hallucinatory experiences." (Wikipedia)

Moving on to this other particular species:

With the usual advice: when considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods -

if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL (lyme literate) doctor who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -

- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present.

Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.

When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Integrative / Holistic M.D., etc. (Be aware that those in this category can have various levels of formal herbal &/or nutritional education, perhaps even just a short course. Do ask first.)

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;

knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches.

Nula just posted this (7-22-15) is a thread regarding a question for spleen support:

"Because the spleen performs an essential function during the body's response to babesial infection and because of the heavy impact on its functioning, it must be supported during treatment."

From: "Natural Treatments for Lyme Coinfections - Anaplasma, Babesia, and Ehrlichia", Stephen Buhner, Februay 2015

Buhner suggests the use of Salvia miltiorrhiza (available at Woodland Essence or Sage Woman Herbs) for spleen inflammation

Salvia miltiorrhiza is also one of the main herbs used in his babesia protocol. I take it every day.
