I try to do organic as much as possible. Some of the produce at the grocery store here is the same price for organic as it is for the regular. Some people just assume the organic's higher and don't even compare the price.
Do you know what "Roundup Ready" means as it relates to GMOs? GMOs were created to "resist" roundup, meaning you can douse a gmo crop with roundup and roundup will not kill the crop. That way, farmers can plant the gmo corn *really* close together (so they can make more money) and they douse the plants with roundup and the roundup only kills the weed and not the corn.
Lovely isn't it?
So when you're eating gmo crops, you're getting the gmo Bt toxin that was put inside the seed of the crop when it was modified AND you're getting the roundup, so it's a double whammy! That's what "Roundup Ready" means.
I try to stay away from at least the "dirty dozen." I've quit eating corn all together.

ps. I just glanced over the article but will save it for a later read... and it makes me want sauerkraut!
DG said it doesn't matter if the cabbage is organic or not when fermenting, that the good bacteria will eat the chemicals, but I don't know...

- That's right and it's really scary!!!
I've got to get to the store to see if they have organic cabbage. They should, right?

The store here has an awesome produce section. It is HUGE. They usually have it, but not always, so I snag it up when I can. You can also check www.localharvest.org for you area. You might have an organic farmer right up the right and not know it. Posts: 631 | From the south | Registered: Nov 2008

By the way, you may want to call your Senators and ask them to support the Tester Amendment. Monsanto is trying to push thru legislation (tacked onto other bills) that would PROTECT them forever from any damages caused by their products.
The Tester Amendment would prevent this. We blocked it yesterday and then they tacked it onto another bill today!!
Gotta keep after them!!
- thanks for info on the cabbage, etc!
and thanks, lostlyme!

Wow! While they force feed the rest of us GMOs and attempt to completely deregulate GMOs and offer immunity to Monsanto, and yet they don't want to eat it them themselves! What does that say?
DIRTY DOZEN (according to thedailygreen) These items have the highest rate of pesticide residue.
Apples Celery Strawberries Peaches Spinach Nectarines (imported) Grapes (imported) Sweet Bell Peppers Potatoes Blueberries (domestic) Lettuce Kale/Collard Greens The Dirty Dozen list is different depending on the source. I would would additionally avoid carrots and pears. These are on Ann Gentry's list in ``Vegan Family Meals'' and omits potatoes and blueberries.
GMO Crops
Canola Corn Cotton Cotton Seed Oil Dairy Products Flax Honey Lentil Meat Papaya Potatoes Radicchio (Red-hearted chicory) Rapeseed Rice Soy Bean Sugar, sugar made from GM sugar beet Sugar beets Sweet Corn Tobacco Tomatoes Vegetable Oil Vitamins, Vitamin C (corn source) vitamin e (soy source) Yellow Squash Zucchini Alfalfa, not sure if they are in the market yet, but looks like they were planted this spring Bananas, okay for now, but GMO trials are in Australia Cacoa pineapples, not yet... Plum, not commercially cultivated yet but has USA approval for GMO Sweet Peppers, I don't think they are in the market yet Wheat, not yet, but watch out! CLEAN 15
Asparagus Avocado Broccoli Cabbage Eggplant Kiwi Mangoes Onions Papaya GMO Pineapples Sweet Corn GMO Sweet Potatoes Sweet peas Tomatoes GMO Watermelon GMOK FOR TODAY All items were searched on gmo-compass.org and The Center for Risk Assessment . To the best of my knowledge they are not genetically modified and they belong to the Clean 15.
Avocado Broccoli Cabbage Eggplant Mangoes Kiwi Onions Pineapples Sweet Peas Sweet Potatoes Watermelon? Seems to be a hybrid, not GMO

This is why I support organic farmers locally and try to grow what I can on my property. It is going to take a long time to get rid of Monsanto.

Hi there <<<<< Lymetoo and Lyme family repliers >>>>>,
Haven't checked all the posted links as yet.
There is another dirty scarey little secret about RoundUp.
The only difference between 'Roundup' and Agent Orange herbicide is the amount of time they are heated[and the temperature heated to] and cooked.
TxC' was exposed to AO+ years ago in Military service, and there is evidence these chemicals and others were sprayed on roadsides/field edges, where I played as a child.
Many folk were most likely exposed w/o their knowledge. And one side effect alone, can be Diabetes type 2. Another can be infertility.
I am not tech lit. w/ the link info',but search the web for info' there is plenty.
And then think of the chemical soup breaking down folks immune systems, and digestive workings etc. Add Lyme and Co's...and it's a wonder we are able to stay alive.
Exposure to the dioxins, and other chemicals in 'AO'/RoundUp type products is so very dangerous.
Trying to prove the exposure can be as tough as the whole Lyme disease controversy, IMO, after seeing what hubby TxC' and thousands of other Veterans are going thru.

We regret to inform you, but last night the Senate succeeded in passing Section 735, aka the Monsanto Protection Act, in the Continuing Resolution spending bill.
Once again, Monsanto and the biotech industry have used their lobbying power to undermine your basic rights. We need you to contact Congress before it becomes the law. With the Senate passage of the Monsanto Protection Act, biotech lobbyists are one step closer to making sure that their new GMO crops can evade any serious scientific or regulatory review.
This dangerous provision, which we're calling the Monsanto Protection Act, strips judges of their constitutional mandate to protect consumer rights and the environment, while opening up the floodgates for the planting of new untested genetically engineered crops, endangering farmers, consumers and the environment.
We are asking that you take action here and then call Congress to shut down their email and phone lines until Section 735 is removed from the House version. Join us in putting a stop to the Monsanto Protection Act!
