I want to thank Melissa for being such a great person on the board here, and having been so helpful with vet tech answers for pet questions - and for being such a good mom -

Yes, thinking of her with love. I hope that her family will see this eventually, since she isn't likely to (maybe I'm wrong about that, but probably not).

I can make sure they see it. By the way, I originally posted this with her permission. She thanked me for asking first.

I will pray.

did she try genetics? I guess it depends on the type of cancer but a friend of mine- her cousin said goodbye and made funeral arrangements after dr told him he had weeks to live.

his wife took him to american cancer instute (or somethign) and they cured him using his genetics! he wsa totally well after that in 6 months.

im a realist, but sometimes things can happen. I always try to have hope.

God, please help Melissa through this time of great suffering and send your Spirit to strengthen her love in you. Please caress her family with your great and perfect love so they can be as strong as possible and that melissa can feel your presence in them and know she is safe and that her family will be OK. Let your will be done dear Lord, amen.

I copied this from a Facebook page for Melissa. I hope it's OK since no name is attached. It's a great tribute.

--

"I met Melissa through the efforts to #FreeJustina. She was a force of nature. She was leading/organizing protests, doing all the things to make sure that Justina was eventually freed. Justina was held unjustly for 14 months - and Melissa was a key person in getting her freed.

Then I heard more about her activism on other topics (Lyme disease, PANDA, Mitochondrial Disease, etc. , etc.), saving other kids, always being there for others....

Our world is very poor in that we don't have more "Melissa-types" in it... It seemed like we had always had enough of those miraculous ladies (and gentlemen) in the past. Not so anymore...

I do know a number of people who can "hold a candle" to Melissa, but there are very few who "shine as bright" as she does. I know, through my travels, dozens of such people, maybe hundreds of such people.

I have met all types of politicians - local pols, state reps and senators, governors, and more than a dozen presidential candidates, etc. They are very different than CITIZEN ACTIVISTS...

It's easier for politicians when that is "your life," and some (hopefully many) do it for the right reason. I consider citizen activists to be the "real troopers" - those who do it because it is right and "somebody else needs to do it" and they just don't sit around and wait for somebody else to jump in.... THEY are that "somebody else."

I considered citizen activists - people like Melissa - a not-so-regular-mom who dedicated herself to making a difference - as the key to the glue that keeps America together and that will maintain, dare I say, restore, America's greatness.

Melissa always does what is right, she motivated and mustered people, made things happen, and sometimes she was the lone "warrior princess." [this is my favorite phrase for her]

She first found out about her initial curse of breast cancer within a day of Justina being freed. She "kicked cancer's ass"... But cancer came back again... She is always focused on doing good.

About her illness, she once wrote to me: "I am pissed. You know how much good I could get done?" Yes, that *IS* Melissa.

Yes, I put her on a pedestal because, while she could have decided to be just an "ordinary mom" (which is so very important in itself), she dedicated herself to being someone who had to make a difference in people's lives.

And she did, and continues to, through all the people she has helped, fought along side and inspired. She made an indelible impression on me. Her love, goodness and strength of character will live on forever in the people she has touched."

I wonder if Justina's family knows about Melissa...

I am so impressed by what I've read here about her - like, if we can do something to help, do it! The SF Bay area has a lot of citizen activists - I can relate to this - good on her.

Fairness has nothing to do with what we consider fairness. Who can fathom the why's; it's not ours to know.

We send love and blessings to Melissa and her family. May her remaining days be in love and peace. May her family be comforted by each other, by her presence, and by God.

I can only imagine how hard it is for them.

Heaven has gained a beautiful angel and Earth has lost a wonderful human being.

Holding her family up in prayer. May Almighty God comfort them and give them strength and healing at this most difficult time.

Your Lymenet family shares your sorrow.

May the peace that passes all human understanding christen and leaven our individual and collective thoughts to see our dear Melissa gently guided and reassured in her journey with our loving Master and Shepherd:

"The Rose Still Grows Beyond the Wall"

Near shady wall a rose once grew
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew
Shedding its sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed fair and tall
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear of pride,
It followed the light through the crevices length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new
Breathing its fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint or fail,
Nay, let us faith and hope receive,
The rose still grows beyond the wall

Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in the days of yore
Just as it did on the other side
Just as it will forever more.

Beautiful.

Yes, now we have to think of the family. They will be sick with grief and will need care. Especially for the first year which is the hardest.
