I used to connect to Lymenet,. a long time ago, back in 1998 when i got my Dx of Lyme , living in East Brunswick, so 18 years later, i thought i was done with Lyme, in doing some research about ways to lose weight and keep it off, i have seen some specific hormones that could be out of balance, doing some more digging, ia have seen a bunch of sites showing that Lyme has thrown off thyroid, leptin, gherlin, and God only knows what else,. that are pointing back to a central location, being Lyme. i thought it was done and gone, after a relapses in 2000, so of course all medical records are gone, Dr. has nothing. anyone else in a similar spot?

Yeppers. I lost 1/2 my thyroid, 1 1/2 ovaries and I think my adrenal glands, right before I was diagnosed. Once it's embedded in you, wreaks all kinds of havoc. I hope you feel better and know you are not alone.

PT,

There is every hope that you can get better -

Infections can cause significant weight gain for many reasons - it's not just about thyroid or adrenals but that's part of it. Many with "undeserved" weight gain (who had fairly good habits) found that once they addressed successfully lyme / TBD / stealth infections, the weight easily normalized.

not sure how comprehensive your treatment was 18 years ago when you were diagnosed but, rather than focus on trying to loose weight, my suggestion is to focus on the whole picture and the underlying issues.

It is likely that treatment was not complete, that there might have been coinfections unaddressed (such as bartonella which often brings enlargement of body and inflammation).

There are other inflammation issues, liver issue (if the liver is stressed, weight often goes up with inflammation).

I see the state in which you live and know LLMD options there are limited. Can you find a doctor who can properly assess the full picture -- and not at all go with just the outer picture but the full inside puzzle.

In addition to assessing chronic stealth infections, a good LLMD LL ND will also assess thyroid, adrenal, etc. How you deal with those requires advice form someone very much LL.

Plastics in our foods, vinyl shower curtains, flooring, glues in our homes, scents . . . the air we breathe, also contribute. We can do some things about some of it.

Could air pollution contribute to the obesity epidemic?

Dirty air is thought to cause a number of negative reactions in the body, including metabolic disorders

Thanks for the replies FOlks,.. I am seeing that there are ALOT of things intertwined here. Lyme treatment,.. That consisted of a 30 day anti-biotic course. I hadn't even thought about Lyme,. have been hypothyroid for several years now,. just doing some research brought Lyme back into thought... back then was only the Western Blot Test,. is there a different (improved) panel?

The Western Blot is still the standard... use Igenex.
