As our nation marks 700,000 lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, Washington National Cathedral will toll its mourning bell 700 times -- once for every 1,000 dead -- on Tuesday, October 5 starting at 5 pm ET.
We toll this 12-ton bell for every funeral held at the Cathedral. Funerals mourn the loss, but they also celebrate the lives of our loved ones, and point us to the hope of resurrection.
This gesture cannot replace the lives lost, but we hope it will help each American mourn the toll of this pandemic."

If this doesn't make you cry . . . It's really haunting. If you stay on long enough, you will see that many of the flags have messages to the loved ones and photos.
BTW, in no way am I making a political statement!

Thank you for your very human statement.
It took about 70 minutes - 1 hour and 10 minutes to toll the bell once for every 1000 people who have died of Covid 19.
In June, the bell tolled for 600,000 of those people. Over 100,000 people have died in just 3 months since then.
Why can't people believe that this disease is the biggest tragedy to hit our country- and the world- ever?
Why can't they know it is their duty to do everything they can to protect themselves and all of us?
Getting vaccinated is a simple, free, way to stay safe for yourself, your children, your friends and neighbors.
People do not lose their freedom by being required to have a driver's license, to use seat belts, to obey all kinds of rules and regulations that protect themselves and others, so why is getting vaccinated for Covid a loss of freedom?
I think most of those objecting were vaccinated to protect themselves and others as required by most schools in the U.S. There was not massive death from those vaccinations - nor is there from flu vaccination or from Covid vaccination.
It could be that a vaccination could insure your freedom to live.

Yes, I agree, Ann. But neither of us wants to start a conflict with others, I'm sure.
It is sad that keeping ourselves and others safe (all available methods) is seen as a political football.
