TC -

GOT MY DANCIN' SHOES ON, OK more like my boots - and READY TO BOOGIE ON November 30th!

WHOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO! [woohoo] [woohoo]

I'm coming ALLL the way from Texas, so I know there's got to be TONS & TONS of the rest of you coming from everywhere else...since ya'll are the ones that actually get Lyme.

Heck, we don't even 'git' Lyme in Texas - and look at the effort I'm making!

NOW - who else is coming? Don't make me start calling you all out by name!!!

This is gonna big some BIG TIME fun -- so find your dancin' shoes, dust off that suitcase if necessary, put a smile on your face, and LET'S GET READY TO RUUUUMBAAAA!!!(yeah, I know the real phrase is "let's get ready to rumble"..I'm being clever...but felt the need to explain in case some of you Lymebrains didn't 'get it' - but now that I have explained, it totally robbed it of any humor. I s*ck at making jokes.)

Hugs & [kiss]

Hi Dr Wiseass...and Tincup. What is going on the 30th? I've been searching all over the board to find out what is happening that we need to attend.

We are pretty well financially tapped out, but if it's that important, I would like to know if it's worth racking up the credit card.

And, Wise, it would be fun to have the SW represented. Let's show how far the arms of this disease stretch.

Hey hey Kelmo..

Sorry you looked for the info.

And I guess it's too late now to say .. It ain't posted yet! Sorry!

The details are holding up the process.. but I did hear the plans were coming along quickly.. so do hold on and some news should be forthcoming.

We just wanted folks to hold that date open for a trip. Once the details are out.. you'll understand. And it is a big deal! Maybe the biggest I've seen in the past 20 years.

NOW is the time for all good Kelmo's to come to the aid of their country. NOW is the time to make a difference and be heard.

Really.

At a recent meeting of the Austin Support Group, we discussed soliciting signatures for the LDA IDSA petition in front of places like Whole Foods which tend to attract health-conscious patrons.

Other possibilities include schools, the post office, movie theaters, dog parks, health clubs ... Maybe some of your doctors will allow you to leave copies at their reception desks.

If you would like a Word document which replicates the petition, please email me at [email protected]

Additionally,

-- You will need to enter the information collected online using the LDA petition form http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/referral/Petitions/Petition.php?id=1

-- You will then need to send the original signature pages to Pat Smith at the LDA

-- we have until at least 11/30 to get all of this to Pat. She will let me know in the next couple of days if there will be more time, and I will post when I hear back from her.

Am I on the right track?!

That's a wonderful idea about taking the petition to work, then entering the numbers. I'm not sick, so I can do this!

The petition has slown down recently. At present we do ~300 signatures per day and in the past it was about 550-600 per day.

With 300 a day we will get about 20000 on Nov 30th.

Kelmo,

I think the idea to collect signatures in front of places such as Whole Foods is brilliant!

That wasn't my idea, I copied and pasted that from someone else. I just noticed the November 30th date, and wondered if I was on to something.

I sent the link out to everyone on my mailing list last night and asked them to pass it on.

I need to contact the person who has a WORD copy so I can take it to work and have all the teachers and staff sign it, then take it to my husband's work. Then....church!

Did anyone else get the info on what is planned for Nov. 30? I did, but I won't post it here.

Will wait for the people planning it to have their say.

Thank you. Holy Cow. I didn't know anything about this. The cost of travel could really take away from my daughter's treatment. But, if I don't do this now, there will be no coverage for her later on.

Can someone PM me with an agenda? Will there be an audience, or are we just standing at the door?

I really wish we could get our act together. Why was this not announced early enough so that people could purchase plane tickets before the expensive 30 days prior. Why was it such a secret??!!! Why did we have to search and search to find out what you people were talking about? I just don't understand this stratedgy at all. And frankly I view it as ineffective.

I try to be supportive of advocasy. But this short sightedness is not helpful.

Karen,

I also agree that 30 days or more notice should have been given. I brought this up the last time there was a rally.

Once again it will be impossible for hubby and I to participate. Hubby has his annual in person LLMD appointment scheduled for Dec 6 and as it has been rescheduled 3 or 4 times already I really can't move it at this late date. He just can't make 2 long trips that close together.

The IDSA guidelines were issued in early October and it seems to me like more advance notice could have been given even if all details were not finalized.

I will so freakin' be there! I don't feel any better from treatment, now after a year at a GOOD LLMD's office, and it's hard for me to drive, but I will so be there! I hope to get my husband to take time off for this, too.

I'll be shouting out on the bus: "Who here is from LymeNet?" I want to put your faces to your names finally!

This is so crucial to the fight.

Solidarity!

"I really wish we could get our act together."
That would be nice.

````````````````````````````````````
"Why was this not announced early enough so that people could purchase plane tickets before the expensive 30 days prior."
1. It is unfortunate these plans couldn't accomadate everyone across the country. You see this project was a "piece" of a bigger plan. The timing was critical... and all bases and details couldn't possibly be covered totally for each individual.. and accomodate each persons location, travel ability, financial status, physical health, and personal quirks.
And to make matters worse.. we tend to have a lot of the ducks here on the east coast.. making it more difficult for folks in other locations. So sorry.
2. The permit.. the one that will hopefully keep those who are coming to the protest out of jail.. well.. thanks to the red tape and a lot of digging in of government heels.. it took 6 weeks longer to get it... by NO fault of the ones trying.
And several folks were trying VERY hard to do it.. knowing there was a time situation involved. They were going there day after day.. driving hours to make the trip each time.. etc. It was NOT an easy place to deal with but they kept on it until they secured it.
3. If a protest is announced before a permit is obtained... the folks who don't want us there would do all they could to block the permit. The hold up was already bad enough... so it was critical to not make matters worse.. even if that meant some folks couldn't be accomadated 100 percent after it was done.
```````````````````````

"Why was it such a secret??!!! Why did we have to search and search to find out what you people were talking about?"

We gave as much notice as possible to folks to at least save the date of November 30... so they would at least have that taken care of... and they would know something was coming up and to be watching for it. It would not have been possible to let everyone know the details any sooner. Actually the news went out the day the permit was finally in hand.

Also... The airlines having those policies.. which change here and there... make it difficult for folks sometimes.

`````````````````````````````````
"I just don't understand this stratedgy at all. And frankly I view it as ineffective."
I can understand your frustration about not knowing any sooner. It can be annoying... to say the least.
I do believe the folks behind the scenes worked extrememly hard to do their best... I know I did. It was difficult especially when there were already so many things to do.. and all of these new plans were going on right in between Dr. Jones and Dr. J's hearings.. and all that intense legal work.. and the ILADS and LDA conferences were needing tending in another state which had to accomadate over 600 people (plus speaches to prepare/a zillion details to tend to, etc).. then there was the big rally in CT for Dr. Jones... big meetings with the CDC, legislators, Congress... and tons of other things they do every day that needed to be dealth with every day.
All that effort and stress was tough on them, I am sure. We need to remember they too are Lyme patients.. many having been sick a long while... and/or they have one or more children with Lyme they are caring for.
```````````````````````````````````````````````

"I try to be supportive of advocasy. But this short sightedness is not helpful."

I am glad you support the cause... and I am sorry everything didn't work out the way that would make this easy for everyone.

Maybe soon folks out west... who don't live in Duck City (the east coast)... can do things out there way to support advocacy and make a big difference. That would be nice.

Now..

If anyone DOES appreciate the work that folks have been doing behind the scenes...

Please let them know.

They have made more progress in the past 6 months than I've seen in the past 20 years.

Another thought..

Why don't folks on the west coast... or closer to it.. either do a protest there.. or let our ducks move out your way?

[dizzy]

We surely have enough we could share some with you all.

Take your pick from the IDSA guidelines... any of the 14 ducks!

-------------------------------------------------That hurt, Tincup. We don't want any more ducks. We have a hard enough time finding LLMD's.

We so appreciate all the hours you and others have put in to organizing this. I know its a phsycial drain, and we don't take it lightly.

I asked and asked what was going on, and someone could've PM'd me. Instead, it was shrouded in mystery. I could've been doing something behind the scenes to help you all.

Of course I understand that there was a time issue involved, and you can't make deference to EVERYONE. No one is expecting that.

As for organizing something on the west coast...who are we going to protest!?

You see....Wormser and his gang aren't out here, as far as I know.

Wishing you all the best. Thank you for all your efforts.

I in no way said I didn't appreciate the work that is being done. And I believe your reaction was a little overboard.

This is the second time a rally has been planned not giving people even 30 days of notice. I find that very fraustrating. You are screaming for people's participation but don't allow enough time for us to get there. That was all my point was.

So get me banned that I am not bowing down to you. I think that the organizers need to understand what it is like on the receiving end of their efforts.

Thank you for explaining the delay. But I don't think that your sarcasm was necessary.

I apoligize for any offense taken.

And no, I will not be posting more on this topic. I won't get in a long drawn out dialogue that is so typical of this site.

I won't be back for that matter.

Hey kelmo...

I was up till 5 AM working on TONS of activist stuff.. AGAIN... and responded to this post just before heading to bed. Actually spent over 1/2 hour trying to help and explain.

If I sounded sarcastic.. it was not on purpose. I was trying to be "light and silly"... rather than doom and gloom.

Sorry.

For example.. when I said.. "We surely have enough we could share some with you all. Take your pick from the IDSA guidelines... any of the 14 ducks!"

I WAS KIDDING! I didn't hardly expect anyone to welcome our ducks!!!

And I went to find the list of ducks on the IDSA guidelines.. formatted it for you all.. and posted it so you could see what ducks you could protest out that way. I THOUGHT that was being helpful.

You said..

"I asked and asked what was going on, and someone could've PM'd me. Instead, it was shrouded in mystery. I could've been doing something behind the scenes to help you all."

1. The reason this all is working out now is because of the behind the scenes work.. and the fact it purposely ISN'T public. As I was told.. loose lips sink ships. I wasn't at liberty to say anything to anyone. If it helps.. I had to turn away our docs when they asked me.. so if I wouldn't tell them.. I sure couldn't tell you. That is just the way it is. Sorry.

2. Yes.. you may have been able to help behind the scenes if asked. But the main thing needed was all that we posted and asked folks to do at the time.

The petition, which still needs signatures.. the contacting Congress in your area about the IDSA guidelines. Then we had folks writing letters to respond to articles coming out.. then.. heck.. I don't remember it all.. too tired to think.

`````````````````````````````````````````
You said..
"As for organizing something on the west coast...who are we going to protest!? You see....Wormser and his gang aren't out here, as far as I know."
You might want to do some research to find your biggest ducks. They ARE there.. or folks would be getting help. Try your state first and see who is blocking your efforts. The check other states. Then you can form a plan and do a protest too. Sorry I don't have time to research that for you.
You can make things happen. You can work with groups more locally. You can support the nation wide effort as best as possible. (I don't mean YOU personally.. that is for everyone.)
For now we really need folks to work togehter to make a big stand. Some things folks can do.. some they can't. So do know anything you can do is VERY much appreciated.
OK?
kgg..
You said.. "And I believe your reaction was a little overboard."
Ok.. on one post so far you've called the efforts.. and the hard work of folks behind the scenes.. ineffective, short sighted.. and now you tell me after attempting to explain things that my reaction was overboard.
I don't believe at this point we will be able to please you. Sorry. Just know the work being done is an effort to help YOU ... like it or not.. agree with it or not.
You can either help and do it nicely.. or not. Your choice.
```````````````````````````````````````````````

You said.. "This is the second time a rally has been planned not giving people even 30 days of notice. I find that very fraustrating."

I do too. I wish it could have been different.
````````````````````````````````````````````
You said.. "You are screaming for people's participation but don't allow enough time for us to get there. That was all my point was."
NO.. we can't accomadate all the folks who want airline deals and special arrangements.. but we are doing the best we can. Sometimes things are beyond our control.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````

You said.. "So get me banned that I am not bowing down to you."

Just so you know.. I don't have the ability to ban you. I am NOT connected with LymeNet other than to be a member.. just like everyone else here.
``````````````````````````````````````````````
You said.. "I think that the organizers need to understand what it is like on the receiving end of their efforts."
Actually they do. They are wearing the same shoes you are wearing. They are patients. They are sick. They have families who are sick. We are all in this boat together. Mutiny isn't a pretty thing... and we would hope folks would help in a positive manner rather than sit back and just criticize others who are doing the work.
```````````````````````````````````````````
You said.. "But I don't think that your sarcasm was necessary."

Actually last night I wasn't being sarcastic.. I was trying to be helpful and address your concerns.

````````````````````````````````````````````````
It would have been great if we all had the details earlier, but I appreciate the explanation - makes sense to me. And I for one am really glad that this was planned so carefully.
I also have nothing against those who disagree. I choose to believe that everyone on this board has good intentions and the same goals (besides trolls of course).
What's clear to me from this thread is this:
We're all frustrated.
We all want to be heard.
We all want to have a voice.
NOW WE'VE GOT ONE, LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
NOW IT'S TIME TO STAND UNITED!!! [Smile]
Time to focus on WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
The stakes are WAY too high for anything less.
Let's GO! NOV. 30!!!
The point made by the Arizonans was that we were willing to sacrifice to be part of the count. But, due to the nature of the protest plans, and the secrecy that surrounded those plans, we are now unable to afford to travel.
We have not overlooked those huge contributions by everyone involved. Just so you know...we were willing and ready to be a part of the big picture.
In Arizona, the common reaction to telling someone that my daughter has lyme disease is, "oooh, that's terrible.......what is it?"
We are on the basic, most basic, place of educating doctors that it exists here.
You don't need you to do our research for us. That's not another thing to add to your plate.
There was a call for all good lymies to come to the aid....and we were willing.
The states are pretty far apart out this way...
What YOU said, TC!
Someday, all the HARD work by those behind the scenes will be remembered as what it took to CHANGE things for the good of all.
NOW is NOT the time for division or nit-picking. We are at the cusp of something very large here, no longer meekly going along with the status quo which continues to hurt ALL of us with Lyme.
As Martin Luther King, Jr., said, "I can SEE the promised land. I may not get there with you, but....."
I would be so happy if my grandsons can get treatment and live normal lives. There are so many to thank who are paving the way.
And T.C., honey, you just astound me with your enthusiasm and being here on the Net EVERY DAY and responding to so many people. I am proud to be even a small part of this and I am so GRATEFUL that you do all you do.
For all of you who are able to be at the rally on Nov. 30, please know that those of us at home share your spirit and admire your dedication.
I believe it is safe to say that the many who have mocked ILADS and LDA people will be quite surprised at the voices and faces which will be saying, "ENOUGH!" "We're mad as h*ll and we're not going to take it anymore."
My warmest hugs to you, T.C, and to those who have also worked so much! [bow]
Janet
In spite of all the mixed up feelings and thoughts that Lyme creates, we have to work together to change things. I really appreciate TC and the others who have organized to change things.
I don't know if I can attend on the 30th, but feel like I need to be there.
Can you feel the passion and see the vision that is shaping plans for the 30th? We can all be a part of that even if we cannot physically travel. We can let the vision change us internally in a process that can sweep the nation.
There is no way the other camp can match our passion. In spite of our health problems, we have the intensity. Lets keep it focused. . .and just maybe the results will feel magical.
For all who can't come to the rally due to distance, health or other issues, here's a promise:
We WILL yell louder for you!
We know you'd be there if you could, and that means a LOT to those of us who are able to attend!
So even if you can't be there in person, know that your support and encouraging words DO have a BIG impact. THANK YOU!
It means everything to have you there in spirit.
WE ARE ALL UNITED IN THIS FIGHT!
Thank you Tincup for your explanations of what has been happening, getting THE PERMIT TO RALLY to protect everyone's butts there!; and how this needed to be hush-hush until things were approved & in place!
You/multitude of anonymous folks have worked so hard on this and the other things going on, and then TRYING to have a FAMILY LIFE!
Thank you all my lyme advocay friends! These words can not begin to say what my heart feels.
Yes, this is NOT the time to nit-pick. Time to UNITED WE STAND; DIVIDED WE FALL!
When I logged on today, we had 35 members; 36 GUESTS outnumbered the members today! So again, that's why things could NOT be posted so camp A/Steere/Wormsers would NOT KNOW EVERYTHING these outstanding folks were planning!
Now the question is TC, are you guys renting PORTA-POTTIES since our lyme crowd has this necessity or just using the federal/public facilities??
Now the question is TC, are you guys renting PORTA-POTTIES since our lyme crowd has this necessity or just using the federal/public facilities? lol but serious for us folks! [Big Grin]
Good idea about the potty, Betty!
Thanks, all of you hard-working planners! I appreciate all of the thought that is going into this event.
I'm wondering about your recommendations for transportation from the New York metro area for non-drivers. Did I miss that?
Choice of where to go potty?
Hmmmmmmmm ??????
Actually, there are 3 choices.
Wormser's hat
Datwyler's car
Shaperio's wallet
[Big Grin]
Ok.. that WOULD be funny.. till you actually HAVE to go!
There will be buses there with rest rooms to accomadate the need...
IF the other 3 choices don't suit you.
Hey Fight... Good to seez you!
You said.. "I'm wondering about your recommendations for transportation from the New York metro area for non-drivers. Did I miss that?"
Not sure if you mean folks who live in the city.. who need to ride? Or folks flying in who need a ride?
A bus maybe? Taxi? I don't know the metro transportation systems available in NY.. sorry. BUT.. you can go to the following site-
www.lymenews.org
And look on the left side... and click on- Rides and Cost Sharing.
They have a space for folks to post for rides .. give and take.
Check the site again for NY metro area transportation.
And for those who can't make it but are financially able, consider making a donation to help others get to the rally:
Thanks, everyone. I looked again and, yes, everything one needs to know about getting from NYC and surrounding area to the protest site is posted at www.lymenews.org
For those arriving in NYC,unfamiliar with the area, you might want to memorize the following as a hedge against loss of your printed directions:
Grand Central Station/MetroNorth Rail/Harlem Line
There are other ways to get to the site as well.
p.s. It's fairly easy.
If you want company going from New York City, a few of us will be taking the 10:48 am ;train to Valhalla from Grand Central Station.
Let me know if you want to go with us. The train is a cab ride from the rally, and we would need to reserve the cabs a couple of hours in advance so we can be sure to get to the rally before noon.
Hey, WC! I've missed you.
I'm thinking of a circle with a line through it, with, "IDSA Lyme Guidelines" in the center.
I don't know if it will be readable, though. I'll be carrying a small sign.
Come to think of it, I think I'll just write that out in black and forget the circle. It would be too hard to read.
My husband will have to lug a chair for me; I can't stand the whole time.
Any word about the potty issues? It's not exactly a standard picket line. Can we go inside the hospital to use the toilets? I know I won't last that long without "relief," and I ain't takin' my lady business into any woods! [Eek!]
Can't wait to see Wise Butt in the hat and boots. Might I suggest a sparkly lime-green thong, at least, there, Lady? Then you won't be stark nekkid. [Razz]
Suggestions for signs?
"You wouldn't treat a dog the way Wormser treats patients!"
"Wormer's IDSA Guidelines say Chronic Lyme does NOT exist!"
Any suggestions?
Sizzled I put many suggestions of signs on your other post asking for suggestions ok. Never done this before, but the 8-10 things I showed is what came to my mind when I read yours. [Big Grin]
I am perhaps more radical than others but...
this is another idea for protesting:
Protestants are divided into two groups, such as men and women or people on the left and on the right.
The first group (women) shouts:
WORMSER?
The second group (men) answers:
YOU EVIL BA****D!!!
Trust me, this technique has worked wonders on some targeted people.
Don't like my idea don't use it.
PS
I am so sorry I cannot be there at the time.
Physically I could, but I am thousands miles away and my finances are in terrible shape.
