Anyone on heparin having to have the PTT (Partial Thromboplastin Time, Activated) blood work done have it go high one week and very low the next?

Dominic has been on Heparin since March 04 and has been doing awesome. We have a PTT and CBC done every 2 weeks.

His base line test was at 30 two weeks after heparin it was 31, two weeks later (and a higher dose) it was at 33, two weeks later 26, two more weeks at 34 then last draw was back down to 26??

CBC always looks good except this time they said he was just a little anemic. Dominic use to live anemic then once LD treatment started he never was again until now.

So do any of ya'll yo-yo like this and if ya'll know what causes it?

Thanks for any information
Starr

Starr,

I can't answer your question, but wanted to know what improvements Dominic has made with Heparin.

Jordan (age 13) will start Heparin soon. He's had the baseline testing done. We are waiting for Dr. C to get back on July 5th to prescribe Heparin.

Does Dominic take Heparin orally?

What is the cost of Heparin?

Thanks!

Dominic improved soooo much. Within a week he told me he felt better, he said thing were so much clear and he could think.

I then received a letter from his teacher telling me she couldn't believe how much Dominic improved it just 2 weeks. She stated that she noticed he was sharp as a tack and quick to answer again.

I noticed that the confusion seemed to just disappear and the rages weren't coming as often. Within a month he was sleeping all night so we stopped the valium that he was taking to help him sleep.

Oh and the most important thing, the fatigue just left within days. He use to have to come home and take a nap after school everyday. Within the first week he told me I feel great!! Did you notice I haven't taken a nap yet this week.

Dominic is taking the oral heparin and we get it from Midwest Comp. He is taking the 4000 UB Troche and it is 49.00 plus shipping and handeling.

Feel free to email me if you like

Dominic said to tell you "Do not forget to get the heparin flavored."

We usually get the vanilla flavoring added and he has no problem taking it. This month I forgot to tell them (it had to be overnighted to us) so it was rushed and they didn't put the vanilla.

Dominic said it has a strong taste like putting money (coins) in your mouth if it doesn't have the flavor added.

Best of luck
Starr
