Hi!

NO! The tests are NOT always right. There is a high percentage of false negatives at all stages of testing. Lyme disease should be a clinical decision, based on possibility for exposure, health history, symptoms, and tests as only a part of the picture.

Here is some very important reading material.

Reasons for False Negative Lyme Disease Blood Test Results

Dr. Joseph J. Burrascano's Treatment Guidelines
This is very long, but a very important document. You will find a basic symptoms list, how Lyme and co-infections are diagnosed, and general treatment protocols.

International Lyme and Associated Disease Society
This is a society of medical professionals who treat Lyme Disease. Be sure to read the section Basic Information and Treatment Summary

Welcome to Lymenet. Others will be along with yet more information, but those are some of the most critical.

If you give us more information about your husband's history, we can also give more feedback. It is very common for doctors to not be able to diagnose Lyme disease.

You best chance of diagnosis and treatment are to see a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD), someone with experience in diagnosing and treating this difficult disease.

If you go to the forum Seeking a Doctor and post a request, someone will send you a referral.

Thanks for the info. so glad you wrote. have been trying to find some good info. hubby has had so many things going wrong. seems everyday is something different. we do know a guy that has lymes, or rather many people.our next step is to see a lymes doctor. i have said all along that, that is what he has, but the doctors look at me like i am some kind of a nut. we live in pa, in an area that is very bad for lymes.
he went to p/t today. the guy told him he has alot of tight muscles and alot of weak muscles, not sure what is causing it. has anyone been told this?
thanks again for your help.
lopa

There is NO lab test that is always right. And that includes Lyme Disease.

Contact the following PA support groups and they will help you your husband to a Dr. who can say whether or not he has the illness.

Hi And Welcome,

My lyme tests would be considered negative by CDC standards, lyme is diagnosed clinically by a LLMD.

Yes, I have had weak muscles and tight ones moslty with TMJ and problems with my left leg.

I hope your hubby gets to a LLMD soon, let us know how it goes.

Good luck to you both,
Beverly

I had severakl sets of tests. they were all negative for 3 months from the onset of the illness. but time is of the essence. Letting it go for three months can enable the disease to go chronic. You REALLY don't wabt that!.
You should find a "lyme literate doc" ("LLMD") as soon as possible- like SOON!
Next time I seem likely to have lyme, I will try to cop some antibiotics immediately! I'm not gonna let what happened last time happen again!
