Hi guys..I am in a worried state..My daughter's picc line just fell out..We are into our 3rd month and she said all she did was to stand up to go shut off the machine.

I hope we can get another one soon since there has been some progress, but think the Dr may still be out of town..If any of you are patients and know, let me know on here please..

I just hope we can get another one soon.

Thanks for any input..Since it happened at midnight, I am hoping it is a bad dream and I will wake to one in her arm tomorrow.

Oh..

I HATE when that happens!

Sorry..sometimes humor is what gets us through over here.

I have never run into this..

Was it put in in a hospital?

If so..you can go right to the hospital infusion people and get it replaced.

I'm thinking maybe even without the Doc being in town..

If they placed it.

Or..maybe to the ER..if you have documentation of the doc'sorders and treatment orders..maybe they can replace if she is away?

We had my son's line..the tube going into the entry site..spring a leak..and had to drive down to the hospital who placed it to have a new one inserted.

Hope you figure this out sooner than later!

You can also ask them to put two stitches in the next one, it helps hold it. Or, use allot of steri sreips in the dressing change (like five or six, with one chevron (a sort of "ribbon" or crossover wrap of one of the strips..shaped like the yellow ribbond people are having painted on their cars?

You thread the strip under the wings of the catheter,, the winged thing..and paste the ends up and over, and then put at least four steri strips laid squarely over that.

Hard to explain in words...

Best of luck!

Mo

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that!!!! I also have a PICC LINE and if it came out at any time of the day I'd call my in home nurse asap!!!!

I'm sure you have an emergency number to call? That is a very thin tubing threaded in a vein. Did she have a StatLock?

If she gets anther one done, request a StatLock for every dressing. It locks the
catheter so it cannot move in or out of the exit site in her arm!!!!

please call you nurse and tell her what happened. She may need to come out and look at the site and you should carefully put the tubing in a bag.

They may want to test it. I know they did that to mine.

Please keep us posted!!!!
Jamie

my son accidentally pulled one of his most of the way out one time... and another PICC line I had to yank because it got clogged. Best wishes if you get another.

WOW that is scary.

When I have PICC line problems I don't even contact my doctor he ordered it in but I was told by the hospital that inserted it than any problems call them. Which is called "special procedures" at my hosptial.

She didn't have stitches holding it in? My stitches came out one time and I dropped by the hospital and they stitched it back for me. My doctor has nothing to do with it never even looks at it. If i have trouble with the line itself I go to the place vital care that takes care of it or if it comes out and such I go to the hospital where it was put it.

I hope you can get that fixed ASAP.

Stacie

Thanks..I no longer have the info because it wasn't the local hospital..Dr. C had me go to ChesterCounty Hospital in West Chester..I am 2 hours away..

Will try to see if Dr. C has a pager or if the secretary is in so I can get the info..

I do know that Becky had asked to not have the white lock thing applied last time since they get an odor..NO one can smell it but her.

Mo...I need all the hunmor I can get. Trust me, but you already are paddling the same boat. lymemomtooo

LymeMomToo..

Checking in..

Hope you got your Doc.

I can tell you we were in the same situation, with a hospital over 2 hours away..but rhey were the ones we needed to go to since they put it in.

Turned out to be much less a hassle, anyway..avoiding all the questions and red tape trying to go through a local place.

In our case, anyway. You can also try stitches instead of the dressing change lock thing..or use the steri-strips the way I wrote about. My stitches had to come out due to my cheap Irish skin..

..but, the stero strips breath well, held it very well when done right. Only thing..if someone else does the dresing change (?)..you would have to stay on them about how they apply them each time.

Just trying to give options, since your daughter has aversions to some things (I know what that's like!)

Good Luck!

Mo

Hey Mo..NOthing cheap about you or your Irish skin gal..You are one in a million and there for me and so many others..Without you guys, I'd be in Shepherd Pratt with a padded cell...

My home health agency just called to give me a heads up that insurance will probably not pay for the proceedure and are getting to the point where they will start questioning the Dr about everything...Great!!! Some Duck in bed with them I suppose.

We had worried about this at the 1 month time but have managed to sneak past with Welsh prayers..The gal also said they are slow to give notice so expect a $5000 bill before they get paperwork out..They are usually a month behind..

I am afraid to ask them in case I make them put up the red flag..Cross all fingers for us..It's not rough enough to go thru this, then the insurance company takes their bite out of you too..Thank God we both have some retirement saved and the house is paid off.

Perhaps condidering self pay for now is better? You can save the claim, depending on your insurance policy for time limit on submitting..

till later, so as not to rock the boat?

Really depends on the big picture, though.
Doesn't seem they can deny a re-insertion of a PICC that came out, but..it would perhaps raise a flag..

Maybe it can be coded (CPT code) in such a way so as not to indicate PICC..such as..surgical procedure code?

Gotta ask provider.

Mo, you had a great idea..It might have helped from being a red flag and we could have absorbed it if it kept other bills being covered..

Only problem is I was off line when you posted and we left here by noon to make the appointment..

My ulclers are loving today..

And trust me..The blasted thing is going to have a lock and enough tape to wrap our Christmas packages. Maybe I would even use DUCK tape if it wasn't so sticky and ugly..Ha!!!

I am slow and Duck tape had never quite been funny to me before..But bet we could have a good fund raiser with it.

Thanks again for the help gal..You know I appreciate it..By the way, how did you make out with the heart problem..I referred someone to your post the other day but I had lost it.
