Just wondering HOW SICK you were when you started antibiotics, symptoms and degree of impairment (working, unable to work, unable to take care of self, hospitalized).
I've been sick 3 other times. When super-sick (out of work, unable to take care of self) they used IV which eventually helped and I got better for a while (like years!). This time I'm at my sickest (having to stay with family, can't breathe often) and I'm starting ORALS (so, I'm a little concerned that its like spitting into the ocean).
Anyway, just curious about your degree of illness, route of antibiotics, and resultant improvement (not much, better, just like Lazarus from the dead!.
Thanks.
PS - if you've used generic minocycline, I'd appreciate it if you would please respond to my query regarding that!

I just started antibiotic treatment, after being diagnosed at the beginning of October. I've been incapacitated by pain, seizure, fatigue and neurological problems for the last two years, first Lyme symptoms I'm sure of in 1999.
My LLMD thinks I have Babesia, as well as Lyme. We're still waiting for bloodwork, but will probably treat for it regardless of result with Mepron. Because of my symptoms my LLMD wants me on IV abx as soon as possible, but is also concerned about whether I'll be able to tolerate the herx.
On an initial course of biaxin, on the 12th day I had a pretty intense herx reaction, several hours of vertigo, tonic seizure, shakes, chest pain, labored breathing.
I stopped the Biaxin at that point and went on a seizure med called Gabatril, starting at a low dose and working my way up. It is helping with the seizures, so we started up with antibiotics again, this time Zithromax. I seem to be handling the herxes better now, and am hopeful we'll be able to make the transition to IV antibiotics soon.
I've been on morphine since July, and have just added Oxycontin to deal with pain spikes on abx and Ativan to deal with anxiety and muscle spasm. I've been having success fighting breathing problems with a vaporizer and sinus-irrigation kit.
I'm due to start up Mepron in a few days, and if I am able to tolerate the herxes on few more weeks of oral antibiotics, will likely start an IV drug as well.
Looking forward to reading other replies to this topic, it's one that interests me very much.

I felt almost dead- bedridden couldn't walk well. I did manage to drive 30 miles to the clinic but that was very scarey...
orals did help. After the months long herxes that is- 400mg doxy.

just to mention in passing that the seizures are more common in bartonella than babesia...bart tends to hang out in the frontal and temporal section of the brain where our seizures originate from....
you may want to be checked for that coinfection also..just as a sidenote...

I was developing intracranial pressure episodes (inflamed meniges) and radiculopathy, etc. when I figured out I had Lyme. I was tested and positive by Western Blot AND DNA cause my first "bite" occurred in 1970 and was the "mystery illness" (I've been infected at least 3 times (I'm sure).
I used to be called stage4 but now I believe I've been caught just on the verge of heavy duty neuro ...
I'm entering my 4th year on abx and STILL improving!!! It's slow going cause it takes months of treatment before I "lose" a symptom during the flare cycles, but I'm still moving forward with no problems on the abx.
Of course, I do the "program" minimal sugar and plenty of rest and Primadophilus Bifudus supplements and am FAITHFUL to a disciplined treatment regime. This keeps me functional and fully employed and I am SO GRATEFUL to those CARING PROFESSIONALS who haven't decided to flush my life down the drain!

When I started antibiotics, I was what my sister called me "a train wreck". I literally had 76 symptoms at one time coursing through my body. Of course 76 symptoms are too much to list but some that I had that really took the cake were:
lightheadness ( I had had vertigo for five months BEFORE abx and it stopped on its own before I started abx) Brain fog This drunk feeling in my head, like i drank a six pack, but didnt severe anxiety migraines BAD muscle twitches all over my body couldnt think right in my head tremors jaw pain ear pain ear and head pressure neck pain numb fingers
The list goes on. I was actually so muffed up in my brain, I didnt take my abx that were prescribed for a month because the bottle had two numbers on it
a 4 and a 2. I couldnt figure out what that meant. Was I to take 4 antibiotics every two hours? 2 every four? Eight once a day? I did everything with those numbers
and was too ashamed to admit it. My sister came over and I broke down and told her I didnt know what my antibiotics meant and she counted them out for me and bought me a pill divider, I was that sick.
I quit work immediately once I started therapy and I was off for four months. I went back to work very ill but have made soem progress since then. Honestly, dont push the work issue. I think Id be better now
if I hadnt gone back to work. Once I started abx, I slept most of the four months away anyway. I had ten good days a month, and that was it. Now I have twenty good, ten bad- 18 months later. Im getting there.
Take it easy on yourself. I did nothing for those first four months ( plus the nine I was sick) and I dont regret any of it.
