Why is it so many are taking different abx and combinations? Does it have to do with where ones symptoms are in the body? The region of the country, the llmd favorites, The kind of bacteria in you? Your body size?
As an example why do some need to take flagel while others take doxy.

Absolutely NOTHING works very well against this stuff.
A number of different antibiotics do at least SOME good if used long enough. Some work better than others at different stages of treatment, and some work better for certain individuals.
The Doctors may choose them on personal prescribing preferences, or which ones the patient tolerates best, or sometimes which ones the patient can afford.
Just about any antibiotic seems to be better than doing nothing.
The 'gold' standard of treatment is 'whatever works best for a particular patient'.
Unfortunately the 'standard' standard of threatment is 'this is a rare disease, so you don't have it. Take your Paxil and go away'.

The best answer to that is kind of in your question,
because everyone is different:
Everyone has different strain of BB ( there are over 300 strains now)
Everyone has it someplace else in their body, everyone has different symptoms, people are infected for different lengths of time,
some people are allergic to certain meds, some people's body chemistry can't handle the Mepron, Zithromax, Plaquneil and artemisinin that their neighbor is taking

I agree with all the above posters..I am on Zithromaz, Plaquenil and Malarone...for treatment of Babs..so far tolerating the meds good.

AND...the tick that bit me was carrying different types of diseases than the one that bit you or you or her!! So there's no one med that will fit all ....and that's why we keep searching until we find one that fits 'us' adn the crap the tick that bit 'us will finallly be killed off!
