I've been on both. No stomach problems from either. Doryx made me herx, generic doxy did not at twice the dosage.

Hi lla2,

Before deciding, you might want to consider the discussion on brand vs.generic on roadback.org and rheumatic.org(?)

My experience:

Generic doxy did absolutely nothing for me, unless the form I took when initially infected--little orange-colored tablets--were generic, then generic doxy was extremely effective. Massive herx, excluding well known side effect of increased intracranial pressure.

Desperation measure:
A course of powdered Oxytetracyline out of a bag from a farm supply store with bromelain seemed to be a lot better than generic doxy-- which was no effect.
The therapeutic effects of oxytet. no where matched those of doryx.

This course of oxytet. was taken according to a syphllis protocol mentioned in
a 1994 nursing drug guide book. I followed the protocol for another kind of tetracycline.

Doryx X 200mg twice a day:
Massive herx with great intracranial pressure. Never got past 2nd day; had to lengthen time-interval between doses by 48-72 hours till head pressure, and herx effect diminished, then went back to 100mg.

This happened to be during a 6hr drive to your state, the year the lyme bill was passed. I think it was a 4th of July weekend.
My private joke was that I had a cytokine 4th of July those 4 days.

The doryx is expensive, but I'd go with it,if do-able.
