Wondering if there are any food restrictions while taking flagyl and minocycline. Should they be taken with food or on an empty stomach.

There are directions on the bottle, but there are often things we need to know that they don't put on the bottle.

Are there supplements that I should not take while on these 2 drugs? Like no coq 10 wih mepron, for example.

I start my flagyl tomorrow...........wish me luck.

After doing my probiotics and garlic faithfully, and not having yeast problems for this entire year on abx, I have a very coated yeasty tongue after a month on tinidazole (close cousin to flagyl).

So -- major, major probiotics and garlic; plus I've added oregano oil, which I should have done much earlier, and a Nystatin mouthwash. Hope I caught it soon enough....

great tidbits of advice...........thanks to all

I think I have it......no alchol.....ABX with food and water. No dairy with mino .....I guess soy milk and soy cheese are not dairy right?

I have also been lucky with no yeast for a year. I am doing garlic and probiotics also. Mino: What brand of oil of oregano do I get and how do I take it?

Off to pop a flagyl,
robi

robi, caution against soy products when you have lyme. there seems to be a growing body of evidence that the Manganese found in all soy products causes the lyme condition to become "aggitated". (Not sure how to phrase it.) Don't have the written info. in front of me right now but know it was in one of the docs manuals that I have.

If I cut out soy I cut out a big part of my diet.

I ea no sugar,no gluten, no alcohol, no coffee, no dairy, nothing fun at all. ONly clean meat.No fish because of mercury....I take clean oil.

I use soy for protein shakes and a soy gluten free ice cream i make sometimes.

If no soy I won't have much of anything left.

Are you sure its bad?

The oil of oregano I use comes in a non-alcohol based oil form -- I use Planetary Formulas, because they have a good rep, the price was right, and they use the Mediterranean variety. There are other good brands on the market, too.

The only definitive research re yeast suppression that I've read specifies the Mediterranean oregano (Origanum vulgare). Be aware that Oregano oil is thought to be a powerful bacteriocide in general, so you may experience dieoff other than just candida. Start slow (a drop or two 3 times a day; working up to 4-5 drops 3x a day) Also, the reading I've done suggests it might be hard on the liver if used in high doses long term.

I buy the bottled oil (with its own dropper) and put it in my own gelatin capsules -- cheaper that way. Some hardy folks put the drops under their tongue, but it stings too much for me. All the reading I've done suggests the enteric coated capsules are a good way to go.

Editing to add that I'm starting to look around for stronger stuff, too -- dunno if my current yeast regimen is enough, with the tinidizole. I haven't been real careful about the diet either.

BTW, I had terrible stomach pain when taking flagyl - tinidazole has been much easier to manage. I found that if I ate small portions of oatmeal throughout the day, and sipped on my yogurt drink, the stomach pain was less awful. Nothing makes the horrible taste go away.

robi,

all I can tell you is what the Doc said about manganese and said that soy products contain large amounts of it. You'll have to judge for yourself. I can't compare cuz all the soy i eat is soy sauce, I hate the rest. ping
