My boyfriend has just been told to go on Flagyl by his LLMD. He's been taking Omnicef and Mepron (for babs) and doc thinks Flagyl will help root out any last shreds of Lyme. Have any of you taken Flagyl? What can we expect side-effect wise? Is drinking allowed while on this medication? Thanks.

No drinking while on flagyl (it makes you vomit). Some people get an extreme herx. I just found it made me tired.

Right now it's one of my best antibiotics, but that was only after going through a massive herx. That doesn't mean everyone will have the same experience, but your friend should not be surprised if he sees an extreme reaction at first. He also might want to take it after he's eaten, since it can be hard on the stomach.

Other Lymenet posters have mentioned that it can cause depression during your first go-round, and also that it's got a lot of potential side effects when taken for a long time period.

For me, it suppresses bartonella symptoms, so I'm using it as a maintenance drug while getting the Lyme/babesia protocol over with.
