I say try it. If the abx are not working and you are depressed on an anti-protazoa med, maybe your MD has good reason to try an alternative.

If it doesn't work you will know soon enough and can go back on abx. Make sure you and your MD have a plan mapped out for whatever scenario plays out. Have a backup plan that you can move into quickly so you don't lose too much ground while waiting for an appointment with your MD.

Also, keep a journal of how you feel. Every time my MD and I (and I is important) change my meds we do it based on my symptom and progress journal which I map out in a graphic for him.

Has you MD had any experience with Silver? My MD had no experience with artemisinin or rife but we both decided to try it and we are both learning from the experience. I don't mind. I just want to get well and am happy to have an MD who is open to alternative therapies. Sounds like maybe your MD is too?

If you do it, let us know how it is working.

Getting late.. but here are a few things from the peanut gallery.

A Mepron herx can make you so depressed you want to die.

Testing negative for Babesiosis means you probably have it. The tests are only made to pick up one or two strains out of over 20 we know about.

I won't address the silver. I am not familiar.

My thought would be try artemisinin. Cheap and it just might work.

Beachcomber has some good thoughts too.. as usual!

Thanks, Tin. Where have you been lately? This board has gotten way too serious. We need some laughs, girl.

If you can get the search engine to work, seek out a series of posts called "mepron buddies." A lot of people have had trouble with mepron.

What Tincup said about babesia has been true for many people. The main symptoms are sweats and chills, but if you experience extreme, debilitating fatigue, depression, or symptoms that relapse in unpredictable cycles, babesia is a definite possibility. Throw in some artemisinin and see if you experience a flare or herx. It's inexpensive and harmless, so you aren't taking a risk by trying it.

I don't know anything about silver, but your Lyme abx are on the weak end. They definitely work for some people, but you can go stronger, and maybe add a cephalosporin. If you haven't tried them before, you can start on ceftin, which is the weakest, and see if there's improvement.

And as for a second opinion... if you have a doctor who will prescribe all kinds of Lyme treatments, you are in a position to suggest different treatments. Although you do want to have a backup doctor available, so that you never feel your life is in the hands of any one person, you can research different treatments and try suggesting them to see if your current doctor is amenable.
