For those first reading about this, the bill is S5057a in the Senate and A7757 in the Assembly.

Because this year's bill is just focussed on providing due process for doctors victimized by the OPMC (state medical disciplinary board) we are referring to it as te OPMC DUE PROCESS BILL.

Right now the bill is stuck in the Assembly and we need to keep pressuring Speaker Sheldon Silver to pass the bill.

Call him now at 518-455-3791.

Just say that you are a patient and you want him to pass A7757.

You will be able to call at night and leave your message on an answering machine.

If we are successful, Speaker Silver can put the bill up for a vote in the Assembly tomorrow morning. Then there would be time, strange as it sounds, for us to push it through the Senate.

But the legislative session ends tomorrow night, so we have to keep up the pressure now or we are sunk.

I'll let you know tomorrow whether we have gotten the bill passed in the Assembly and what happens next.
Thanks,
Ellen

Keep those telephone operators in Albany busy tonight, folks. Make your call and encourage your insomniac friends to do the same.

You can email the early-to-sleep friends and ask them to call first thing tomorrow morning.

Got my call in, along with two neighbors and parents....it's 11:29 PM here in Oregon, and a very nice lady is STILL there answering the phone. I'm really amazed there's a real, live person answering when you call at this time of night.

But we don't want her falling asleep or getting lonely, so everyone keep those calls coming in!

I called and asked for Mr. Silver right away.
He couldn't get the phone but I was transferred to talk to another man there.

After talking on behalf of the bill he asked my name and phone number....

Please keep calling!!!
