this is something I found out recently: enzymes like papain and bromelain can be used like antibiotics to digest germs, since they are made up of protein! has to be high amounts, though. all I know, is that I seemed to herx whenever I took them. according to one website, one is supposed to be on certain things first, and then use the enzymes to finish the protocol. anyone else hear about this?

when i could not get diagnosed and treated i took wobenzyme and experienced great relief, but was, and am still severely affected.
I think plant and animal enzymes are a sine quo non for infections.
Lysozyme has a demonstrated antibiotic property.
Never heard of papain and bromelain have abx property, although it could be true.
Pancreatin has elastase in it and this was demonstrated in the lab to kill borrelia.
Do you have any links or leads to the abx properties of papain and bromelain?
Tired now. back tommorow or sometime this week
see http://www.mucos.de, the site for wobenzyme an other enzyme formulations used in various illness, but for different reasons than abx properties.

Some enzymes like Nattokinase, are fibrinolytic and if taken on an empty stomach, there is a chance they will actually help disolve fibrin buildups bacteria could be coated in shielding them from the attacks of your immune syst or from abx.
If you are using enzymes and abx together you mighr very well be getting at more bugs than you would if you were only using abx.
I certainly experience what seems like increased reactions to abx (especially around my brain-I suspect blood vessels around the brain) when I take nattokinase ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. In fact the headaches are too much, I have to use nattoK on and off to recover from the effects

The other day I took something called Qzyme (digestive enzymes from Garden of Life) and began to herx within a few minutes. I could not understand it and I think you have just explained it! Thanks Lymelady

to the limited extent that i understand natto, some natto products, including perhaps, fresh natto from a supermarket has vitamin K in it. the vit. K maybe promoting clotting.
Jelly Belly, who posts here, and has a discussion board, on the topic of coagulation problem(s) would know for sure about this.
some chronic fatigue groups go into great depth on enzymes and various kinds of coagulation relating to infection and/or genetics.

Natto, the food, has vit K in it. Nattokinase (the enzyme) doesn't unless you gat the not so crash hot supplements.
In any case, I wouldn't mind getting to the bottom of this whole vit K thing re coagulation, I have read that vit K (found in greens) might not be the devil it is made out to be re coagulation.
But unless we know otherwise, we have Lyme not primary (genetic) hypercoag probs and so eating vit K should not be a problem with us. The enzymes might still play an important role as far as ridding our blood of the excess fibrin (which can be cause and consequence of our Lyme).
Of course some lymies have genetic coag problems as well.
