Ok, I've been on Cefaclor (US Ceftin?)for about six weeks now and three weeks ago I felt better than I had in a long time. Aches & pains were amazingly better, more energy etc.

I have also been taking a variety of supplements inc. Q10, flax seed oil, magnesium, B complex and Black Cohosh.

I really wanted to know if the supplements were doing anything so I cut down on some and stopped the Black Cohosh altogether - I know the risks that some associate with this supplement and some have said that it's not good to take for more than a few months.

Well, my joint pains, creeks & poppings & swellings have returned in spades as too my extreme ovular pains mid cycle and tiredness.

I know that Black Cohosh not only helps with hormonal stuff but it is also an anti inflammatary and as good as aspirin for pain.

Does anyone else have problems taking so many different things that its hard to know what's working and what isn't. I'm very retisant to stop anything for fear of feeling so crap again!

IMHO, sometimes it's not one individual thing that's working, but the combination of all.

My guess would be that at this point, you do have hormone imbalances which will cause the symptoms you mention. But the hormone imbalance may very well be lyme induced, most likely from low magnesium levels.

I know taking a zillion pills a day (I take about 50 and have been off abx a year) gets tiresome and expensive, but I feel great. So would I stop? Not on your life.

If it ain't broke, why fix it?

And more importantly, did you discuss it with your LLMD? No adding to or subtracting from without their approval first. I'd report the issue to my LLMD and see if ok to add Black Cohosh.

Hello Julie,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I see your point of 'if it ain't broke why fix it'.
My doc has said that the hormone imbalance is due to the Lyme.

I'm sure I've had the Lyme since I was a child / perhaps even passed from my mother as she has a lot of Lyme symptoms.

The Black Cohosh has made such a difference that I really don't want to stop taking it.

My LLMD has not recommended taking any supplements - he did put me on a strict no wheat diet along with various supplements to start off with but now that I'm on the antibiotics he hasn't suggested any other things to take with them. I take the supplements of my own valition so you are right I must talk to him again - with a telephone appointment that only lasts 10mins and costs about the equivalent of $100 there is only so much you can fit in!

I too, wonder what's actually working and what's not. I take sooo many supplements and

prescription meds that I can barely keep track of them all. I never no what's helping and what's not.

With cycling, meds and hormones I never no what's what. I would say if you go back on the

Black Cohosh and feel better again, then keep taking it. It must be making a difference.

Good luck!
