I was recently told by a close friend that her overweight 10 year old [confused] son lost 15 pounds, without trying, when taken off these three drugs (Ceftin, Doryx and Mepron) for a month. He is now back on these drugs and slowly gaining the weight back. Can anyone tell me which one of these drugs is the one causing the weight gain?

I am taking Ceftin and doxycycline myself and am having limited success in losing weight. I am curious to know if is due to the drugs.

I suspect this is one of those things, like everything else about this disease, that varies from person to person.

I can't speak for all the drugs, but I started taking Ceftin as my first abx in June. Within about 2 months, I'd lost almost 25 pounds.

Actually, the weight loss wasn't horrible. I'd put on that amount of weight prior to my dx.

I hope this helps

Andie

Actually her son only lost the weight when taking a break from all three drugs. He gained weight when on them. I've been on Ceftin and doxycyline for almost 6 months and have only lost 8 pounds but that was after I joined Jenny Craig. I wish Ceftin would make me lose weight. Thanks for the input. You may be right about it depending on the person.
