The guy said my throat was perfect, that i had a completely normal swallow test which he has not seen in a while. What does that mean exactly? How does lyme effect the throat so that it feels like there is something there yet the swallow test shows nothing wrong? Anyone know?

Hey Luke,
me again. On my 2nd trip to the ER back in Sept.
The dr there said it is probably something making me think there is a problem there, but there is nothing. he told me to ignore it.
Well, he was right about it being "something".
Lyme affects the nerve that involves swallowing. The Vagus nerve. My guess is the lyme is making you think ....giving you the sensation that you cannot swallow, when you actually can.
That Barium is nasty isnt it?
I had t swallow 32oz of it for a CT scan of my stomach.
The back of my mouth and throat felt numb and it felt like i could not swallow, yet i could.
Have you tried different temperature foods...is one better then the other, or do you have this all the time?
Hopefully others will have more input

I had that done once myself-yuck. I went through a period where I felt like I had a "lump" in my throat and it wouldn't go away-very scarey!! They never did find the cause and even to this day I will get it from time to time. They say it is definately Lyme related.

This is why I keep resisting this test, because it doesn't find anything in lymies. There seems to be knee jerk reaction to swallowing trouble, even in lyme literate docs.....get a bariam swallow. Next time anyone suggests this, I am going to quiz them on results from other patients, and why I need this. I don't feel the need to undergo every conceivable test, just because they exist.
But then, it might be harder for newbies to take this position.
