Sorry if this question has been posted before...

I've seen references to this music-in-the-head thing a few times now on here....and I'm wondering how many of us have it. I'm not talking about the occasional song stuck in one's -- (everyone has that, I'm told) -- I mean *constant* music...

I, for one, have NON-Stop songs in my head. I have for about 18 years now... seriously --- each and every moment, from falling asleep to waking, and every moment in between (*not* always the same song, thank goodness!!!)

Sometimes it is harder to ignore, sometimes much easier. Sometimes the songs are significant and meaningful, but usually it is just something I heard while waiting in line at the Walgreen's pharmacy or something.... a jingle, an old pop song, a little ditty...or something I've been listening to recently.

I do play music for fun... and I can do it really well by ear and from memory, thanks to this strange ability I have.... I can also remember lyrics with uncanny accuracy.

Once, right after starting tx, the soundtrack almost disappeared for about half an hour -- the silence in my head was so unfamiliar it was really disconcerting, and I was quite glad when it came back -- even though I've been saying for a long time that I wish the song-thing would stop.

Anyone else?

My son had this for years before being diagnosed with Lyme Disease. The same tune over and over again.

Since treatment is has decreased a great deal. He will have days without any music and when he does have it it is quiet and doesn't last long. He does get it back full force with his herx's. Doesn't go well with the migraines.

Hard to say what drug combo helped this. If I had to guess I think when he was on Tequin/Doxy it really quieted things down.

Hope things get better.

This only started when I got LD. The music goes around and around in circles, usually the same song and the same verse during each episode...

Once I had to play the radio or TV constantly to mix up the signals in my brain. This happened with other things like depression, herxing, and if I didn't sleep the night before.

I think it is a manifestation of neuro lyme but some people are genetically predispositioned to certain things like for me OCD and depression. Others may have frank schitzoid stuff, Amy Tann used to hallucinate

Sounds like you are able to turn it into a positive with your talents

I just get freaked out and know I'm in a black hole for awhile.

Based on what I've read, this may be a form of tinnitus, which is very common with Lyme.

Me too!

It's why I hate commercials so much -- their music seems to be first in line to get stuck ("Magic Bus" comes to mind. AAAAUGHHH Please no more magic bus).

This afternoon it was the Nutcracker Suite, a bit early to be truly seasonal, but as I seem to have no say in the matter, I let the dancing sugar plum fairies do their thing.

It's pretty constant with me, the music, it seems to be always there. Ergh.

that is my worst symptom...I know it is from acute lyme...I took augementin and it dyed down but started back up again..it is as if I get a song stuck in my head...I am not hearing a halucination..but it is the pits..it has to do with the temporal lobes...and the process of music...so yes I have that..hope it goes away...

Cave said.. "An offshoot of that was Carl Zimmer got in touch with me, interviewed my phone and then published an article in a London paper about music hallucinations."

Need I say more?

Tincup -- that was funny! I hope the phone gave the interviewer something to work with.....they can get a bit repetitive, what with all that ringing and ringing...

Yeah, as far as the music goes, I'm not talking about an hallucination, per se -- I *know* the music is in my head, but it can sure be hard to screen out at times. It is unlike tinnitus, in that tinnitus actually sounds as if something is buzzing -- this is more like a repetitive thought, only musical, and often including several parts (like the vocals, keyboards, drums, what have you...) It waxes and wanes, but never really leaves. It gets worse with symptom flares, for sure. I suspected this was a lyme sx, but was just making sure it wasn't just a weird "me" thing....

Thanks for the replies.

How strange it was to see this post!

I too have music and/or voices in my head......but they aren't anything I recognize. It's almost like a radio on or a conversation going on in another room. Except nothing is on and no one is there!

I can usually only hear it when all is quiet at night, but do get it sometimes during the day.

I thought I was just going nutso and just pretend I don't hear it. [Smile]

Another crazy lyme symptom I assume.

PS..at least the muffled voices aren't telling me to do bad things!! [Smile]

I was on bicillin LA for about 6 months, and was doing well on it overall -- then I developed serum sickness. We're not sure if it was from the bicillin or the ketek, but I am off all abx at the moment. The music has quieted down a bit, but is still there.

I get that weird "conversation in the next room" thing, too, sometimes. Usually it is when there is some kind of white noise, like a fan going.

The music, though, I generally recognize... I've gotten almost to the point where it doesn't really bother me, unless I happen to end up with an old 'Air Supply' song for 6 days or something.

Some music is more prone to get stuck than other music --- the last Coldplay album, for whatever reason, was MURDER that way. I'd listen to it, and have various tracks running around in my head for literally weeks on end.

I definitely notice it is worse when my neuro symptoms are flaring... like right now, for example. I'm thinking it has to be something in the audial-processing system....
