I have been treating my lyme dor over 3.5 months now and I have been on Biaxin/plaquenil for a little over a month now. It seems that I herx after every dose... the herx comes around a day to 2 days after taking it, so I am pulsing.
Is this typical for some of you? I have been reading that herxes usually come in cycles but for me it is none stop. What are your experiences?

Everyone's different & I don't hink this is the norm but I herxed almost continuously for the first 2 years. Untill I started pulsing.
hang in there because the force of the herx's lessened over time & became more tolerable.

Normal is a really difficult thing to define with lyme.
I would make you dr aware that it is effecting you like this.
I can tell you I have had herxes last all kinds of times and start all kinds of times after taking an abx
for me longest herx was 3 months while on flagyl
the fastest herx was hours after I took an increased dose of an abx. That one was terrible so bad so fast - so I switched back to the lower dose.
Hang in there - like dana said for me when starting a med the herxes are always worse.

For the detailed scientific explanation.. don't read this!
If you want something most folks can relate to.. please read on.
Pretend you are a kitchen sink full of dirty dish water and your pipes are partially clogged up.
If you continue to pour more dirty water in the full sink before it has time to drain some... you will have a total mess all over the place.
Now..
Liken that to you and the die off junk in your system (dirty water) from the antibiotics killing keets and stuff.
If you kill more keets than your body can flush through and clean up at one time.. you will have toxins running through your body.. not being able to "drain" quick enough.. making YOU a mess.
So you can literally "herx" or be full of garbage at any time.. depending on your antibiotic killing power... and your flushing system.
That is why some folks herx a long time.. some not. Depends on a lot of factors.. such as the load of organisms, immune system, age, history, health previously, type/dose of antibiotics, etc. etc.
That is also why we pulse.. get breaks.. and/or take smaller doses when that happens.
Hope that helps.
Now.. back to the cartoon corner, featuring the World of Barney and Friends.
