On August 15th I started taking zith and flagyl (pulsing both). A few days ago I stopped cold turkey because I was having some herx's that were affecting my heart. Or at least I thought that was what was causing my heart issues.

My llmd said to stop for a few days. Prior to being on zith I was taking doxy. I was taking it every day along with flagyl (every day). I was given that regimen by a different doctor. When I was taking the doxy I was feeling a lot better. I rarely felt lightheaded and had no heart issues.

So when I start back tomorrow should I call my dr. and get switched back to doxy. Or should I give zith another chance? I have an llmd appointment with my Lousiana doctor in October. I heard from someone else (on this board) that zith and flagyl just kill the cyst form of Lyme disease... so you have to pair it with another antibiotic (like doxy). Is this true??

Thanks for any info you can give me.

I'm just kind of confused as to what I should do. [confused]

Zith targets the L-form, Flagyl the cyst form. So, a an antibiotic that targets the spirochette form in addition to these 2 would be a good combination.

It sounds like the Zith is giving you herx more than the Doxy. You didn't say what kind of heart issues it was giving you. Obviously it scared you. I actually went to a cardiologist at one point to find out what I was experiencing. They called it PVC's and said not to worry.

I always think it is good to get more information anyway you can. The healing process is not usually pleasant. I know one LLMD, that would say "if you're not herxing, you're on holiday!". I'm not sure I believe that strict of a view.

Perhaps you can lower the Zith amount? How much are you taking? Zith can be a huge herx creater! The idea is not to overwhelming your body, but to get results too.

Robin,

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that Zith targeted the L-form. That's good to know.

I mentioned to my local doctor about taking doxy along with the zith and flagyl and he said that would be overkill. But I'll mention it to my llmd and see what he says. My local doctor is very knowledgable about lyme disease but I don't think he has as much experience.

I'm taking 600 mg. of zithromax. [Eek!]

I don't know if it was the zith that caused my heart issues or if it was the spriochette form of LD going crazy since it wasn't being targeted. It started last Friday. I started having a heaviness feeling in my chest, having air hunger, heart palps. Just very unsettling symptoms.

Since taking a break from the antibiotics those symptoms have mostly disappeared, so maybe it was a herx...

I'm thinking about continuing the regimen my llmd gave me... and if it's still not working for me when I see him in October we will look at other combinations.

I'm looking into buying some samento and cumanda. Maybe those will help target the spriochette form of LD.

Trust your doctor! You have a good one!

The zith could be working on babesia....hence the heart issues. Just my opinion.

Don't add other stuff without his input.

Dear Lauren,

The heaviness in the chest, heart palpatations and air hunger are all part of my ongoing

Babs herx/treatment.

Is it possible this is a herx from the malarone? (Aren't you on this also?)

I did 600mg of zith a day with four malarone.

I did one flagyl a week, but that was only to keep me from getting c. diff.

Babesia herxes and Lyme herxes also raise my anxiety level,

To where every thought is one of impending doom...

It is simply horrible.

See if you can try to ramp up to the recommended dosage of zithromax.

Hugs,

Geneal

Geneal,

Hi. Yes I am taking Malarone as well.

I guess it could be a herx from that, never thought of that before.

Thanks for sharing with me what you are going through. It's hard going through the scary symptoms. I can handle the achiness, fatigue, and lightheadedness... it's the heart related symptoms that scare me.

Sorry you are going through the same stuff! [group hug] Thank you for being so helpful. BTW, I am going to call Dr. F, but I thought I'd ask you... What does he think about his patients taking natural herbs along with the antibiotics. I'm wanting to start taking cumanda and samento.

~Lauren
