Tried Doxy first time w/Biaxin today as prescribed. I've been on Biaxin with amoxi for many months, so I just dropped the amoxi and added Doxy, simple enough...NO! Ate small snack. One hour after dose had HORRIBLE acid reflux and I am on Nexium! Didn't know what to do to relive it!

Wanted milk so badly!!

Does anyone know if Mastic Gum would help and how to use it? I've only heard it can help stomach issues.

I never get acid reflux, except with certain meds and the reflux causes a terrible pain under my left rib cage that hurt all day. I had ab ultra sound recently, everything normal, but they weren't looking exactly where that pain is.
Why acid refulx creates this pain later I don't understand.

Would Rifampin be easier - this was not fun and I can't handle that pain that follows the reflux.

Any ideas besides eat more? I am trying one more time - then that is it. Does this side effect subside or do you live with it the entire time you are doxy?

Thanks for any help

I'd replace that "small snack" with a substantial meal! If it's a morning dose, try something soothing like oatmeal and toast.

THEN take your doxy, followed by a little more food.

I'm sorry - the pain does not sound like fun. I hope it gets better for you!

Thanks Michelle - Eating breakfast is hard for me,especially a large breakfast, this may not work out. I am so use to my meds I simply took on an empty stomach and felt fine. This is rough.

Do you need food when taking Rifampin too?

Hi All

Doxi is a Very Effective med -
and is worth taking --

Do Not eat Citrus or cranberries when taking Doxi-

Even Small amounts (lemon in your tea)
can cause bad side effects -Quickly-minutes

Make sure to drink Large amounts to
warm tea or water --
It make a Huge difference in lessening your
bad side effects and with herxes -

Eat A few Soda crackers with your Doxi dose -
they will lessen stomic problems -

Hope this helps you -- Jay --

Rifampin and doxy go after two completely different things .... doxy does have to be taken with food and you can't lie down afterwards.

It was difficult for me to eat a substantial breakfast, but I did and the drug was worth it.

Rifampin is taken on an empty stomach.

I hear ya -- my idea of breakfast is COFFEE.

Doxy changed that, believe me!!

I had to start making myself eat breakfast while I was on it. Even WITH breakfast, you could still feel queasy. But more manageable, for sure.

As Six points out, resist the temptation to lie down. When I felt nauseous, I would sit back in a big chair till it passed. Sometimes dozing...! But it would usually pass.

Hang in there!!

Doxy has great CNS penetration.

When I first started Doxy I had terrible reflux as well. Learned quickly that the only way it didn't happen was to take it while eating a meal -- not a small snack. Now that I take it with a meal now, I don't have problems with the reflux or nausea from the Doxy.

If you change that, there should be no reason why you can't continue.
