Hi Guys-

As some of you may know, I've been researching magnesium issues for quite some time. I have normal serum mag levels but low RBC levels of mag. Anyway, I've been through the array of lyme, coinfections, and antivirals treatment and think that mag depletion may be one of the reasons why I cannot get better.

I have all of the clinical symptoms of mag deficiency and the low RBC tests. I've been trying to restore these levels through IV and IM (which has been a whole other experience unto itself...I could write a book).

Through a healthcare connection I had, I was able to get the address of one of the top researchers in the world on magnesium depletion. Most of his research has focused on the area of the kidneys, since most mag is metabolized via the intestines or kidneys.

I asked him an array of questions and received some responses to some of those questions.

In a nutshell, he agrees that certain diseases like lyme can strip the body of vital electrolytes like magnesium...He said the use of "multidrugs" as he put it can cause long-lasting depletion of not only magnesium but of other trace elements such as copper, zinc, and iron. He said when the body is severely stripped of something like magnesium it can almost set-up its own "disease-like" state....Other things will begin to go awry....thyroid...hormonal balance...some may experience a rise in blood pressure, for example...

He said researchers/physicians don't yet know at this time why taking magnesium supplements won't reverse this metabolic dysfunction for some people. Different people may need to try different methods of supplemetaion to see if one works better for their body than another.

I know from personal experience that loading oral mag glycinate and then switching to Oral MagTab was not working for me. I could not raise my levels with just the oral mag. My heart rhythm and erractic thyroid did not go back into the normal range until after I did a series of mag sulphate IVs.

I'm by no means cured. I still have the twitches, severe muscle cramping, and severe stiffness. The fatigue is much better, though and no more yeast issues.......Anyway, all of this is to say that "one-size-fits-all" type of supplemenation may not work. I know the tests for mag levels in bone and muscle tissue are lousy. The serum and RBC tests (short of doing a muscle biopsy) are the best we've got at this time.....Anyway, if one form of mag has failed for you and you think you're low, you might try a different method of supplementation and see if you get different results...

Bear in mind, though, that it may take you awhile to see a marked difference (it took me about 2 months of IVs and IMs before my fatigue lifted and my heart calmed down...(that's about 5 IVs total plus sporadic IMs plus 6 MagTabSrs a day over the course of about 2 months)....Also, I learned from a nephrologist that specializes in mag wasting that the kidneys can only handle 1 gram per hour...otherwise you just excrete it.......So if you get mag drips, you may want to consider 1 gram per hour over the course of 4 hours....just a suggestion....

Another word of caution, for some of you that are really low in mag, you MAY experience some aching after the IVs....Many don't but I do after each one....So, don't be "freaked out" if you feel a little bit worse for a few days...Those IVs are mobilizing a lot of things that haven't been mobilized and are impacting nerves....

Lymeinhell and Marnie have written some great info on this board about mag....Lymeinhell has helped me a great deal....

Please PM me or write on this board if you are focusing on magnesium as well...I would love to talk with you....

You could be allergic to the mag so you can't absorb it well. In a sense like the north ends of two magnets pushing each other away.

NAET can effectively deal with that. www.naet.com

hi bugg; haven't seen you in awhile i believe! thanks for the above but i had to SOB, scroll on by, due to the long, solid block text paragraphs.

please edit your post by CLICKING PAPER/PENCIL ICON to right of your name. that opens up BOTH subject line and body text.

now please break up your WORDY SENTENCES into one sentence paragraphs. Then hit ENTER KEY ``THREE`` after each paragraph; we need that space for comprehension.

if you are NOT a wordy person, you can do 2 or 3 total ok. do this for your entire post.
