I am about to add Alinia added to my Zithromax (250mg-500mg daily) as I my LLMD's energetic tester found that Babesia and Mycoplasma are my remaining problems. Lyme seems to have resolved.

I am also taking BLT (herb combo) and Enula (herbs for Babs).

Can Alinia users tell me their experiences and whether it has helped them?

It's a very expensive drug. Has anyone found a generic version from Canada? If so, where?

I did take Biltrizol a while back, but it was in 2 big doses. Are Alinia and Biltrizol similar?

I can't find anything online about Alinia being effective for Babesia and am a little concerned about this.

Apparently Mepron did not test well for me, but Malarone did.

For some reason my LLMD wants me to try Alinia for 2 mos.

I suppose I can add Minocin or Doxy into the mix to hit the Mycoplasma also.

Any feedback?

Thanks!

My LLMD uses it for babesia, I think he may pulse it. I haven't done it.

I started Alinia about a month ago. I suspect we have the same LLMD (sundays).

It's been rather rough. It seems to be gaining popularity as a babesia drug that also is supposed to have cyst-busting capabilities.

My insurance wouldn't cover it. As usual. I ordered from a canadian pharmacy, and it came from India, via canada.

I read on the california lyme yahoo group that SOME doc in
California is getting it for his patients from Canada/India for somewhere around $300. I'm not sure who it is though.

It's too early for me to say whether it is helping. I'm early in treatment. I did have trouble taking the dose he told me to....I had to back off a bit and slow down.

Good luck.

PS. What did you think of the energy tester? They mentioned that to me at the last appointment. I'm a bit skeptical. I'm open-minded, but......yeeesh, it's so hard to know.

When I dropped the Mepron and added Alinia to the Zith, Babesia came back over the course of two/three months.

My experience was positive. i took it as a cyst buster & found it much easier to take than flagyl.

Only real side effect i noticed was it turns bodily fluids a radioactive yellow---goes away when you stop using it. It is quite expensive---over $20 per pill.

I was on Alinia/Zithromax for quite some time. Well tolerated, except for the radioactive yellow bodily fluids - but I guess that meant the drug was being carried everywhere! All in all, a good drug. Some LLMDs don't believe in its usefulness as a cyst buster, but for "misc" protozoans it is supposed to work well. Jury still out on if it is equivalent to anti-malarial for Babesia - my current feeling is that it works, but not as well.

I'm supposed to start it for Babesia (same doc as you I think). I didn't know about the radioactive yellow - thanks for the warning. Gee, Rifampin turns us orange, Alinia turns us yellow.

I'm super-sensitive to medications and everything so I am worried about how strong it is supposed to be - I haven't been on a cyst buster or Babesia medication yet so there is a lot to kill off.

I hate alinia!

I used alinia for 2 months, switched to plaquenil for a couple months, and just finished one addtl month of alinia.

I am not going to renew my script for it, because insurance wont pay anymore, and i just feel like crap on it.

reasons i don't like it-- side effects:
-depression
-detachment
-worse brainfog, cloudiness
-increasing stiffness and all-over soreness.
- increased pain in feet

for me it takes about three weeks for the depression to lift...

one positive reaction to Alinia: it has lightened the Bartonella streak marks on my back. I mean REALLY LIGHTENED them, but they are still visible.

So if it's for babesia, why did it do that? seems curious.

oh, yeah -- my llmd says it is an effective killer of GI parasites. he says it works in three days for that purpose

Sounds like a herx to me.

Are Mexican pharmacies safe? I have heard horror stories about overseas pharmacies selling knock off drugs that have really hurt some patients.

Any thoughts on this? How do we know we are getting the right drug?
