Hi,

I was just wondering if your child has heart pain specifically, how your child describes the pain?

Our son has been having pain for 3 years now (I didn't know I had Lyme and his pedi dismissed it).

He may have a congenital problem we have recently learned, so we will be going to a pediatric heart center in 10 days.

I asked him this week what it feels like (he had an episode at school with pain that day and later at home), like someone is poking your heart, someone is sitting on you or squeezing your heart.

He said it feels like someone is sitting on him. Yikes! It makes me think it could be Coarctation of the Aorta where there is a narrowing. Heart attack victims report a crushing sensation in the chest/heart area, and they have a blockage/narrowing.

He will usually stop and place his hand on his left side over his heart and stand still or sit down. He grimaced the other day.

I just don't know what to think for sure! And then he had no heart symptoms at all yesterday.

Think it could be Lyme since it isn't happening every day? He has a lot of other lyme symptoms, just today he said that he sometimes 'hears' people talking when they aren't. He never mentioned it before.

thanks,
Ocean

My son has complained of heart pain. He had an ekg which was normal. I just called my son to ask him what it feels like.

He said it was like a tight, stiff, squeezing pain, while at the same time it felt like someone punching his heart.

He hasn't had it for a while, and I too wondered about both of our heart symptoms being lyme related because they come and go.

One day while doing school work at the kitchen table, his heart started thumping so hard that I could see it through his shirt. It's scary when it's your own heart, but that much more scary when it's your child... am I right? [Smile]

I remembered to pray for you last night. Hang in there!

I am not a child nor have one, but this does sound like lyme to me (in my very non-medical opinion). Though from what I've read and learned most heart problems are caused by Babesia. I've heard the crushing heart feeling being ascribed to Babesia. I also have this. And for the past three days I've had the 'someone is poking my heart' feeling. It always just comes and goes.

Jasmin,
Thank you so much! This reassures me. I really hope that his symptom is 'just lyme'. It scares me though because my son's LLMD has seen other kids with Lyme (I know someone who took her 3 kids to him and he did not refer them to a cardiologist) and I don't think he refers many to a specialist. I know he and I agreed that we both hear the same somewhat irregularities in his heart beat.

He said he had it again at school today. I asked what he did and he said he held on to his heart and closed his eyes and grimaced until it passed.

Not that Lyme doing this to him is good either, but I just don't think we can handle him having a surgery plus dealing with Lyme, ugh! Yes, I agree that it is SO scary to see our kids go through the heart stuff! I hate it myself, but then you just feel so helpless when it's your own baby!

Disturbedme,

Wow, that is interesting that Babs could be causing this then? I know babs causes the tachycardia, but I guess it makes sense that it could cause the pain too.

I need to go to an LLMD who will treat me clinically for Babs (my son's will).

Thanks so much for your input, I have more hope now that this symptom could just be the Lyme thing.

Take care,
Ocean

I'm not a kid anymore at 38 but a first symptom for me was weird heart pain...kind of a gnawing pain. This was two years ago...it still infrequently manifests but heart tests have been OK to date...

What your kid is experiencing could very well be benign or lyme related but its always good to run all the right tests...

Lyme does cause heart issues...some serious...

Lymeorsomething,

Hey...it's how you feel inside that makes you a kid or not, right [Smile]

Yesterday and today I think I am having the gnawing that you are talking about, but while it was mostly on the left side, I had it a little on the right too, not sure if it was cardiac or not.

You're right that it could just be the Lyme, we are hoping that it isn't a congenital abnormality. I made an appointment with his regular pediatrician on Monday, as I want her to take his B/P sitting, standing and laying. I checked his femoral and pedal pulses and they were present. They may have been a bit weaker than his radial pulse though.

I guess what I've noticed through my stethoscope is that his heart tone sounds 'flat'. I don't know how else to describe it. Most hearts have that 'hollow' sound like a drum, but his is like the sound of hitting metal with a stick or something, I don't know. I don't have a pediatric blood pressure cuff, but compared to our daughter's his B/P seems to be higher than theirs.

But Lyme can cause changes in bp too! It's so hard to figure stuff out isn't it!!!

Thanks again for your response!

Ocean

Hi Ocean

Yes I think lyme and childern, with heart issues are common. Do Not take no for answer!!! Insist on seeing a speacialist.

I know of one case the year I was infected that was not good. The 6 year old lived next to Us in Northwestern Wisconsin.

Take this seriously. Just like You only Your Child knows His body.

I could not think of a reason a child would even think of contriving hesrt pain. But that is what our neighbors were told. The doctor had the nerve too say it was a cry for atention.

I wish You well and know You are in My prayers.
