This is new to me. Have not changed meds (plaquenil, clarith, bicillin shots, bactrim...) Did take two provigil today for wakefulness while at work. Came home, ate, BAM - Difficulty breathing. Like I can't get my lungs to fill with air.
Took a xanax. Turned the AC down and fan on high. Tried breathing into a paper sack. Any other suggestions? Trying to relax.
Is this some sort of herx?
I am afraid to go to sleep.

I wish I had an answer for you. I experience this too. Sometimes I think I will die from it.
I find talking to myself to calm down sort of helps. Also I sit upright in my bed with my back against the headboard and try and remain calm.
These are not very good solutions, I know, but it is all I can ever think to do.

If the air hunger is something new, you should go to the ER to be checked out.
I have been having air hugner/shortness of breath for a year now, so it's kind of old hat,
but the first time it hit, it hit BAD, and I went to the ER for it.
Of course, it was all chalked up to anxiety, but at least they did the heart tests and chest x-rays to see if everything was okay.
If you hve babs, that could cause the air hunger, at least that's what my LLMD said.
So please go get checked out, and I hope you feel better!

Thanks for your posts. I have also read where NAC helps. Actually, just sleeping seems to help. Talked with my NP and she thinks I should be tested for babesia.

My son and I have air hunger. Again, old hat to us now, but at first it was really scary.
My doctor checked me out and we had a great talk about how sometimes my car (a volvo) has a light that comes on indicating something is wrong and it is just a loose connection -- no big deal.
She wants me to liken it to that. The Lyme and co's (probably babs) makes the nervous system believe that I can't breathe, when in fact I can. Mixed signals. Light on when it shouldn't be.
It helps to drag it into my brain. Makes me get less anxious about it. I even say, "air hunger" afterword, just for good measure.
Granted, it never lasts longer than a few breaths for me.
I hope you can find some way to feel more safe.

I have heard of this symptom for years, but never experienced it till now. What I do is put my hand on my abdomen and try to breathe into it, to make my hand rise. That helps most of the time.
Good luck finding what works for you.
