Currently taking: Levaquin, Cefdinir, & Plaquinil
Have been since December.

Ears & throat started screaming so I went to doc thinking yeast...

So how could I get strep throat?
Family MD was stunned- now I'm taking azithromycin and oflaxacin (ears) along w/ everything else.

Just needed to vent...it seems like there is always one more thing...

Dang! It will be really hard to avoid yeast now! If you know of anything that works for you to boost your immune system, I would sure focus on that. Maybe hit the vitamin C big time?

Good luck!

look into triphala for strep. you usually can get at a health food store. you can google triphala to see what it does. It is very active against biofilms.

Hope you get over it soon.

This happened to me. I was on Minocycline, and I got strep. I actually stopped taking the Mino, to take the Zith for the strep, then started back on it right after, and I still got a horrible yeast infection in my throat.

The yeast infection was so bad that I had to stop the Mino again and just treat for the yeast.

Don't know if the strep was an open door for the yeast or not, but the yeast infection was worse than the strep throat.

Make sure you protect against yeast!

Sorry you have to deal with strep on top of everything else.

I agree with Janis-work on your immune system. Our body usually keeps strep in check. I'm not an expert but I do know there are different strains of strep. Perhaps the abx you are taking are not effective for your strain or the strain is resistant to the abx you are taking?

If you haven't already, please consider contacting your lyme doctor. They may want to change your current abx or have you go off temporarily. Mine did when I had an infection in my salivary gland and needed a broad spectrum abx.

Did your doctor culture the strep to find out what kind you have? If not, that might be a question you should ask your lyme doctor. If it's resistant to the abx you are taking, maybe they know something that your family MD doesn't?

I hope you get it under control quickly.

Terry

Yeah, I had that issue too.

i was on Doxy, and when I went to my LLMD, he did a bunch of bloodwork.

My strep was through the roof.

He started me on rifampin as well (I have Lyme and Ehrlichia), and the next time he tested, the levels were back to normal.

He couldn't figure it out either.

It would be interesting to know how many others deal with strep despite being on abx.

Thanks for the replies all,
I'm feeling better with the z-pack working.

I called and left a message w/ LLMD yesterday afternoon letting her know what was wrong and what antibiotics they put me on. She hasn't called back, so I'm still taking all the original medication along w z-pack and ear drops.

Regular doc said the stain of strep had to be hardy to get past the levaquin-he was amazed. No, they didn't culture the strep-just the quick swab test.

I started back on Proboost for my immune system and am adhering to the strict yeast diet until this is under control. Thanks for the reminders.
Nap time is also going to the top of my list!If I can't eat ,I may as well sleep [Wink]

Strep is apparently a common co-infection with Lyme. Many people with Lyme can end up with some very persistent Strep bacteria. I think since our bodies are so taxed with the Lyme etc that it just can't fight off the strep. Sometimes it can take quite a while to get rid of the strep.

My LLMD tested me for strep when I first saw her and it was insane. An adult should have levels less than 85 and mine is over 900. I have been on abx for 5 months and it still hasn't gone anywhere. She said it can take a year or more sometimes to get rid of it.

So I feel your frustration. I am dealing with strep also and it just doesn't seem to want to go away.

Sick since 10/2001. Tested CDC positive for Lyme 10/2008 through Quest and Igenex. Started treatment 1/2009 with LLMD. Lyme, Erichilosis, Chlamydophila Pneumoniae, Q Fever, Strep Syndrome and probably a few others I am forgetting.
