we moved here from uk in 2004 then 5 months later in 2005 I was diagnosed with rmsf. Family and friends have often commented I have never been right since we moved here, health wise. This year has been bad gradually feeling more and more ill, until lyme diagnosis 3 weeks ago. Was on oral doxy now have picc and iv rocephin, but my question is could the lyme have been contracted at the same time as rmsf, or do they not go together. I asked my primary care and she said different ticks carry lyme and rmsf. Could lyme have stayed active all that time??.....seems a huge coincidence to me or am i am very unlucky with ticks......

Florence 1, I was also diagnosed with both RMSF and Lyme. My antibody titers showed that both were recent infections, within the last 3 months. There are deer ticks, Lone Star ticks, and Dog ticks in the state where I was exposed, and unfortunately, I had multiple tick bites from 2 of those. So it is possible that I got one disease from one tick, and the other from another....but I doubt it. All those bites over a year and a half, but only 1 that stayed attached until engorged. A few days after I discovered that one, I became ill....so I believe that same tick gave me both diseases.
How were you treated for the RMSF back then? It is usually treated with the same antibiotic initially as Lyme would be...Doxycycline...but usually only 2 weeks for RMSF. That is not a long enough course for Lyme. So could be that you got both at the same time; there is a very high incidence of co-infection with tick bites.

I think it would be UNlikely you got ONLY RMSF back then. You most likely got Lymed too!
The Lyme could have stayed active the whole time or it could have gone dormant...ya never know.

I was also diagnosed with Lyme and RMSF (and mycoplasma, and West Nile)
I've been bitten by so many ticks in my life ..I have no idea which tick gave me what (and I'm almost convinced that I might have even been born with Lyme because my identical twin has it too)
But yes, I think it is definately possible to get RMSF and LYME from the same tick.
I never had a spotted rash or anything, but I've been "puny" or unwell my whole life really.
