My LLMD rx'd Factive and Coartem/Riamet at my last visit. I don't remember him saying anything about taking them on different days. In the Coartem product literature it says that quinolones interfere with Coartem. Should I simply take them on different days? Factive I'm supposed to take 5 days on, 5 days off. And Coartem only 3 days per month. Anyone know? I hate to always have to contact the office in between visits.

It sounds like you need to take the Coartem during your 5 days off Factive. Maybe start on your second day off Factive, to allow time for the medication to clear your system before starting the Coartem.

You do not want to have an adverse drug interaction. And as always you should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns before starting a new med.

Sammy,

I think you're right. Does anyone else know?

Yes,

Don't take Riamet at the same time as Factive. My LLMD stated that I should never do that. As Sammy said, I was told to wait a few days and then start the Factive.

Hope that helps

Katrina

I got it at Duane Reade, a NY drug store chain. They had to order it, but got it in the next day. When I tried first to get it at Rite-Aid, another drug store chain, they couldn't get it.
