It is important to know that support supplements for the body do not necessarily protect from harsh effects of illness/infection, chemicals or bad habits. Some support supplements do also exhibit a protective effect - but that depends upon the particular supplement and the specific element of harm.
For instance, milk thistle supports liver function and it is also protective against damage from some chemicals, but not necessarily all, under all circumstances.
I've not studied coryceps enough to know if it has protective as as well as supportive properties but links below are a place to begin understanding the nature of this medical mushroom.
[Salvia m. is another herb to study for supportive effects on kidney function but that's another whole topic. One good link, though: www.itmonline.org/arts/salviarenal.htm ]
=============
From Dr. B's list, there may be other things to help support kidney function but Cordyceps is just the one that came to my mind. My guess is it's suggested for the adrenal support and the fact that it also helps the kidneys is a bonus.
As for how it helps the kidneys, that is more in line with use as a nourishing food or tonic, as used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Remember that, in TCM, the kidney "channel" includes many organs.
CordyMax is included in Burrascano's Guidelines, but you may want to be able to refer to Cordyceps separately, too:
Derivatives Of A Rare Chinese Mushroom Can Improve Capacity For Aerobic Exercise And Endurance In The Mid-Age To Elderly, Sedentary Humans
A new study in humans validates effectiveness of Cordymax
Conclusion
Numerous supplements are introduced to consumers offering only anecdotal evidence that these products are effective and safe.
This study provides scientific evidence that CordyMax is effective in enhancing aerobic exercise capability, endurance exercise performance, and exercise metabolism and alleviating fatigue in healthy humans.
Cordyceps mushroom is sweet and bland in taste, and warming in action. It strengthens immunity and fortifies and heals the lungs, heart and kidneys. Used as a tonic for weakness in the elderly and to promote longevity.

Thanks, Keebler. I'm going to have to buy Cordyceps. I wonder if it will help my air hunger too?
