Has anyone had a CT scan of the abdomen with contrast? I am just now reading the pamphlet and it is scaring me with side effects and warning of possible death from the contrast media.
I know this is my anxiety kicking in, but should I go ahead and have it done??? It is today at 1!
I am very neuro. sick...just hoping this doesn't make me worse.
Thank you for your input or suggestions!

I think you will be fine as long as you dont have allergies to shellfish..............there has to be warnngs on everything......look at your meds............if we worried about all those side effects we wouldnt take anything to get better.............good luck

I know, you're right. I have lots of anxiety right now over everything! Not normal for me. Oh, and yesterday, went outside to kids' playset to pick up a toy truck and guess what was sitting on it staring at me - a tick! Just to make me more paranoid.

I've had a CAT with contrast and had no problems...it is iodine that is used...unlike the MRI contrasting agent....
good luck.

I've had 2 abdominal CT scans since having LD. I didn't feel any side effects. Just drink a lot after to wash it all out.

Had a full-torso CAT-scan, with contrast in '06. RICKetty old machine ('70s era?) The technician guy was rushed, but iodine drink taste wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.
Everything went Fine! I wouldn't sweat it. But keep any further radiation exposure (X-rays, etc.) down to a minimum now. You'll have your rotagen(1) dose for the year!

Well Jwall. I guess you had your test. How did it go.
I had an allergic reaction to injectable iodine so on my last CT they pumped me up with Prednisone and Benydral (before I knew I had Lyme).
Now that you have already had the test I can tell you that my symptoms went out of control after that test for whatever reason. I ended up in the hospital and that is when I begged for a Lyme test. Thankfully it came up positive.

Hi Haley, The test went well. I am just having anxiety about anything I put in my body these days. The contrast was not great...got really hot and then felt like I couldn't breathe for a minute. Really heavy chest. But, then it subsided.
the funny thing is I have a really bad earache for a LONG time. It wasn't really bothering me when I went in for the scan, but when the contrast went in, it was like pouring salt on an open wound. My inner ear was BURNING and then started itching. It was the only spot in my body that burned like that.
That must've been awful having prednisone! I used Nasonex a few times before my dx and it made my neuro. symptoms horrible! Doctor could never figure out why. She said nobody has reactions to Nasonex. Wish I had known the lyme/steroid connection.
Glad it's done. I think I'm finished with tests for a while.
