I am really struggling with neck pain again. Is there a prescription that has helped you turn the corner with this. It is miserable. I feel like I can barely hold my neck up. Usually when this flares, my knees flare as well. I am not sure if it is Lyme or what...
Now, I have stopped the pill because I am being tested for hormones. I had a reverse ratio before, hence the pill. I am guessing this could be hormonal but it sure feels LYMEY!

Moist heat - get a towel wet with HOT water. Put a dry towel on your neck, then the HOT wet towel, then a plastic bag, and then a heating pad. Let it sit on your neck for an hour with the moist heat. Or you can get a Thermophore heating pad - it absorbs humidity out of the air and provides a wonderful moist heat treatment right at home.
Since I'm allergic to all painkillers, I've had to find alternatives. One is the heat pack as above. Another is homeopathic remedies (Arnica, Hypericum and Causticum have been very helpful for various pain issues from Lyme/coinfections), and also Nettles (the herb) for joint pain has worked very well for me.
A massage therapy session may also help if the soreness is from soft tissue (muscles, connective tissue) instead of joint/bone issues.

I once had someone rub caster oil on my neck. I was absolutely amazed how good I felt afterwards. Worth a shot.

Thank you both... I will try the heat tonight. Also, I meant to say lyme drug or rx. Hopefully someone can pipe in about which drugs helped with this!

Funny you're having neck problem too. I'm having a HUGE flareup as well! I have not had this pain for over a year. Started Artemisinin this week and BAM! my neck feels like wood and soo painful! I'm sitting here w/ the head pad on waiting for my husband to give me a neck rub. Will try castor oil! I think for me it's a herx.

And recently, in thinking about the tight neck situation, I recalled that I had totally stretched out all tight pelvic muscles in the pool over 9 months time and stopped the pain.
Soooo, I recently started stretching my neck very gently, giving it support with my hands as I did so, and found I was able to reduce pain some.
Reduction of pain in the pelvic area was gradual over time, as I was able to stretch more. So maybe it will also take some time to gently stretch out tight neck muscles.

Besides the natural things, you can get your dr to rx Lidoderm patches. It's lidocaine, which is similar to novacaine. They do help a lot. You can use them anywhere you need on your body for up to 12 hrs/day.
They tend not to stick too well, so on the neck, you can use a headband, that you can get in a sporting goods store, to keep it on.
If your dr writes the rx for up to 3 per day, you get more for your co-pay, assuming you have rx insurance coverage.
Neck pain is a BIG Lyme symptom. Not that it can't be from other infections, too.

I tend to get a flaring of kneepain/swelling and neck/shoulder pain at the same time too and am having a lot of this at present whilst on chelation cycles.
I have started to use Pekana's Inflamyar [15 drops x 2 or 3....also available as an ointment] and this does seem to ease the pain.
