Lyme / coinfections can cause joint pain and inflammation, which can look a lot like osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is thought by most MD's to be caused by wear and tear on the joints. Athletes are usually more prone to developing it at a younger age due to the harsher physical activity involved with being an athlete.

I would not be surprised at all if Lyme could play a role in the development of osteoarthritis. What does your Lyme doc say about this?

i have confirmed by xray osteo arthritis in many joints

it started in my early 30s when my lyme became unbearable (i now believe i had lyme most of my life...but just lived with it until my early 30s when one specific pain in my back made me begin to seek tx)

i believe my lyme has a lot to do with my osteo arthrits

my knees were the worst. i never had injury to them.

my hands are second...the process was started before i had injuries to them

my whole back and feet are also confirmed

early 30s is really early for "wear and tear"

i believe it has something to do with the writings about how how Bb eats or what ever it does to cartilage (it is pretty well documented Bb likes connective tissue better than blood)

and i also wonder about the "process" that is started with 1/3 of the population that got the lyme vaccine that immediately got a progressive arthritis that could not be stopped

i worded the above wrong...my understanding is 1/3 of pop has a gene that when they got the lyme vaccine it started the arthritic process

i'm sorry i cant direct you to the writings on this subject-i know they have been done

i struggled trying to understand this for years and altho a search on here will give you more info-i never really found proof that linked osteo to Bb

however...i really believe Bb was the cause of the beginning of my osteo

but of course i'm not adoc or a scientist. just a leftover lymie who hs ben thru the trenches

if you look at research the right way you may find something-i can't do it anymore

Osteo- is my org. disability, and I have a run of things that seems to be all lyme related-
about 12 yrs ago - I started -
with rages...lyme rages ? esp driving
feeling out of control of simple things..
no sleep,high bloodpressure...
caught colds/flu easy..
healed slower from cuts etc.
lose of hair..
eye sencitivity..
divorced after 17 wonderful yrs..?
then the gallbladder went..
then the acid refux/esphogus burning up.
noticed if i drank i was getting drunker easier..
then the knees, swellen pain, and like mud.
scoped and osteo disababled both knees...
odd stomach weight, like all my fat was belly.
mood swings, headaches, arthritis like rumitiod
yes, spelling and word problems memory loss..
sweats, fevers, fatigue extreme,
remembering a turkey hunt prior to all of this,
where after 4 days from throwing turkey over back
to carry, i saw a enlarged/blood tick on the bedroom floor.. flushed it and forgot it...
except for a rash in the middle of back..?
had leg boils... tested for MRSA - neg.
life goes on, but, not my old life.
felt like i was 80 yrs old, my 80 yr old dad could out do me just in a short hike.
finally in 2010 found a lyme MD and was tested positive/ IGneX..
only because of this site...thank GOD-
I saw a picture of a tick enlarged from feeding and waa laa that was what i killed yrs back on my floor/bedroom...
when i told reg. MD he laughed and said lyme don't exsist in this state... really ? dogs have it, cattle have it, i seen ticks before..hmmm?
the path lyme lead me through, and i am blessed
as a doctor sent me for new knees and disablity.
now, after 4 blood clots in my legs, and on coumadin surgery is on stop orders..
and my knees are 2nd in mobiliy to this LD.
seeing a good LLMD now, but, he has a cake mix of symptoms to pull me through for sure.
Always wanting my old life back..
which came first lyme or the egg ?
Get a LLMD and do what he says..avoid mentioning it to reg MD's they will not help.

There sure isn't! Mine's quite an ordeal as well...

-Razzle, I pose this question for my girlfriend, actually. Her chiropractor gave her an xray, after his adjustments only made her worse. He saw what he said were signs Osteoarthritis in her spine. At 28 years old, this is very uncommon. She has a slew of other symptoms. She was diagnosed with Fibro at least 5 years back. Nothing has helped and she is pretty worn out most of the time. I have been pushing her to the LLMD for a year now, but she's as broke as me, and she wants to finish school. - I know she's dead wrong, but I would have said the same thing 2 years ago. - In fact it took me 8 months of stumbling around before I went to the Doc.
I don't know how I can get her into treatment. All of my money is currently being spent on my Dr. bills. ( and some of the money isn't mine!)

I think this Osteo is a result of late stage Lyme wearing away at her body. WHAT CAN I DO?????

Lymeboy.. you are absolutely correct about your girlfriend. She's bound to have Lyme with all those symptoms and being so young.

Many of us were misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia first.
