The key with breaking Doryx is to be careful not to crush the yellow pellets, which is the enteric-coated Doxy. As long as you are careful in that regard, the Dorxy should still work as designed.
The manufacturer told me that in order to protect the small yellow pellets one couldn't break the pills with anything mechanical, i.e., no pill cutters, no crushing with a spoon, etc. The pill had to be gently and delicately crushed or broken with your fingers making sure not to crush the pellets.
The issue I still can't get a definitive answer on regarding Dorxy is--one pharmacist said that it isn't really time-released so much as just enteric coated so that it doesn't upset the stomach, and another that stated it is time released to dissolve over the course of a day--not sure which is accurate--perhaps both?

Not sure why StillWater might be, but in our case, dd can't swallow pills--
has awful gag reflex and tends to choke on many things--
so we have to break pills or open capsules or find a tincture/liquid/powder and/or chewable substitute.
