I've had horrible problems with dermatitis due to dressing adhesives. The only one that I could somewhat tolerate was IV 3,000 or Opsite.
I was also getting frequent fungal skin infections that were very hard to clear. This was horrible because then I could not access my port, had to miss my IV antibiotics and IVIG.
Well, I have GOOD news! I found a new dressing! It uses silicone instead of adhesive. Also, chloraprep and silver is slowly released from the dressing silicone over 7days. This prevents infection!
The name is "IV Clear" by Covalon.
Since using it for awhile now my skin has been perfect, flawless!
I just thought I'd share the news since it has helped me so much, it might help someone else.
My infusion company had to special order it for me but they were willing due to the documented problems that I had had with the other dressings and infections.

Thanks for this Sammy! My skin gets extremely chapped from my PICC line dressing. My skin has always been very sensitive. I might need to look into this. I really dislike my dressing because of what it does to my skin.

I tried various brands of skin prep, made sure it dried well, but it still did not help with the dermatitis. I was also getting skin infections despite meticulous care.
I get the dressings from my local Walgreens Infusion company. Not sure if Infuserve carries them yet.

Do you still use chloraprep to prepare the site when you change the dressing? Or does this dressing eliminate the need to prep it altogether?

Thank you so much for this info, Sammy! I am ready to go for second try at a picc line after a terrible time with contact dermatitis with my first. I will look into this one!

You still need to clean and prepare the skin in the same manner before applying the dressing.
This "IV Clear" dressing simply replaces your old dressing if you are having problems with adhesive sensitivities, dermatitis, or infections.
So yes, you definitely use chloraprep or providone first!

I figured so, but thought since it released chloraprep continuously that maybe you didn't have to prep it anymore. I might ask Infuserve if they can get this for me on my next order. This sounds fabulous (:
