he has been on zyth and amoxy per dr. J since Sunday. Yesterday and today he had nasty explosive BM. Only one per day thank goodness so I guess technically is isnt diareah but it hurts his belly before he "goes". Poor little guy, I felt so bad for him. I am giving him pro-biotics twice a day. He gets his amoxy in the am and pm and zyth in the afternoon around 2:30. I did not give him his bedtime amoxy because his tummy was so upset. Did I do the right thing by skipping or was that a bad choice. any suggestions? Should I call Dr. J and let him know? THanks, Patti

I would urge you to call your doctor immediately. That's what you have him for. What you describe is nothing to fool around with. Please call and don't wait. It may be innocent, but better safe than sorry.
(My husband's appendix ruptured last New Year's Eve and we got to the hospital in time. He had very similar symptoms. But my neighbor died from the same thing the year before.)

Zithromax and Amoxicillin can do that at first. Make sure he stays hydrated, take the pills with food, have yogurt and probiotics and no sugar! It takes a few days to get rid of the grumbles. I know, I always have explosive diarrhea on Zithromax, oh my god yes. Ginger tea may help with the tummy aches, but its really the pills themselves. Since the Zithromax i assume is once daily, try giving it to him with food before bedtime. What are the doses?? I would not stop taking either of them, call your doc sure, but remember this is a normal side effect of the meds that usually calms down as the body adjusts. Call your doc and let them know. If he JUST started the meds, give it a few days. Treating the Lyme is way more important that the stomach pains are (try to hang in there)

W. Condor: he is getting 400mg Amoxyl A.M. and P.M. and Zyth 250mg mid day.
Tree Patrol: I am giving him Pro-biotics and that is acidophilus (couple of different strains in one capsule) 2 times a day.
I dont think it is serious as it only happens once a day and he is fine until right before he "goes" and then he gets a gassy belly ache and then when he is done he feels fine. I just dont want it to go on. Hopefully it is just an adjustment. If it happens again today I will call Dr. J.

This remedy has REALLY worked well for my family: Perfect Food by Garden of Life (a green powder).
You mix one scoop a day with water or juice or those little acidophilis bottles. It includes a mix of greens and algae. It appears to act as a powerful probiotic, antioxidant, and antidiarrheal.
Jarrowdophilis EPS has been the best probiotic, given that we can't use something that requires refridgeration.

Keep a CLOSE eye on this, particularly if the pain and/or the runs get worse/more frequent. I (personally) would contact the doc as kids (and older adults) are more prone to C. diff infections. For those of you playing the home game, that's a nasty intestinal infection that results from the overgrowth of bad bacteria. It's easy to test for (scoop the poop!) and your doc will let you know if he/she wants to do that.

Yes, that Garden of Life Perfect Food is certainly tummy soothing.Has anyone tried their probiotic Primal Defense-no refrigeration required? Great stuff for replenishment of flora. I love all their products-they do the job. Happy Holidays!

WIld Condor you were right, He had a day where he didnt go at all and then his routine was back to normal so I would chalk it up as an adjustment period.
Thanks everyone for your help and caring. You are all great. Pattiecake
