I had prolotherapy in my mid and upper spine 2 weeks ago. My pain did change however, I still have a lot of different pain in the mid spine which was never there
before.

I feel achy and a stabbing pain when not sitting and leaning againist a good lumbar support chair. My doc said pain usually subsides by third week.

Anyone have a similar experience or can give feedback on prolo treatments?

Can you describe the pain? I know I had pain for 4wks afterwards. I think it was more of an aching after the first week.

I will say prolo helped me tremendously. I had alot done though....like several treatments on many different areas of my poor ole body.

Lymetoo,

Hard to describe but aching, discomfort and stabbing pain. I didn't expect to have pain quite this long but it's VERY uncomfortable. My pain is in the spinal area.

My doc said pain will start to disipate around 3rd week which is next week. The healing part was more uncmfortable then the injection and I didn't expect to be in this kind of pain.

If it helps though, it's so worth it!

Snowboarder, the pain should not last more than a day or two.

Did you do the exercises that you were instructed to do practically right after you got off the table? If you didn't or did not get instructions to do that, that explains, to me as a lay person, the pain.

The purpose of the injection is to irritate the nerve/tendon/ligament area, and in doing so it pulls itself together and tightens up to give the body the normal ligament support it used to have before the Lyme infection stretched them out, etc. But in order for the area not to tighten in the wrong way, you have to give it the right range of motion for several days by doing the exact exercize you were told to do by your doctor.

In one of the links below, you should find the explanation of how Prolotherapy works if done properly, most likely more understandably than I did.

Sometimes the procedure has to be repeated before it takes hold.

Take care.

P.S. I just found my notes on Prolo. Exercise - In order to stimulate new growth of collagen, the proliferant is injected, but in order to align the new collagen correctly with the existing ligament tissues,it is very important for the structures to heal in the presence of movement.

This will protect the ligament from forming adhesions to neighboring structures and increase longitudinal alignment of the new collagen.

M. J. Ongley has designed an exercise to accompany the treatment of each part of the body. These exercises are essential. You should make sure you are furnished with written instrucitons and have a demonstration. Repetition of these movements ensures proper healing. As the healing process goes on for several months, it is recommended that patients continue with the exercises for at least three months after the injection.

P.P.S. I had no pain from the injection at all. A little soreness that passed within 48 hours. I did not need the painpill I had been told to have at home. But then my doctor teaches Prolotherapy and has done many, many in the Pain Clinic he used to run. My husband literally had to carry me into the office and I walked out. I think I had a second treatment several weeks later. But that was several years ago now and I never had another problem.

yep, the healing part was way worse than the procedure. I didn't do any exercises. Wasn't told to. Would have, if I'd know what to do. Still worked.

Gigi,

No, I was not given any exercises. The MD that did Prolo was on a referral list that you posted uner neural therapy and a recommendation from 2 MD's and a chiro I use.

All of these healthcare professionals have used this doc and said they had fabulous results. Not sure if they had this kind of pain or not.

This makes me nervous that I'm still having pain to this level.

Can you give me the link for those exercises or email them to me?

Thank you GiGi.
