Dr. Burrascano says NO FLAX OIL or FLAX while fighting lyme...this is in his treatment recommendations - I have yet to get a good definitive explanation why...but thought I would pass this along...

I posted a list a couple of times of the value of various oils. You might do a search: Which oils to use - or similar reference.

No Flaxseed oil because it takes too long to convert to the other Omegas. We have been overfed with plant oils.

We vary Coconut Oil, olive oil, ghee butter or butter, sesame oil when it fits the food, and most important is the fish oil. Look for a clean fish oil - which is rare to find.
Biopure (1-800-801-6187) has one now in a veggie cap that is pure - if it is clean it won't burp-fishy, long as your digestive processes are still functional. Pharmax has a great one that is sweet for children and adults. (Medicine Man in Seattle has it at a discount.) Many fish oils hold metals. There are few non-mercury fish around any longer, and we have made a mess out of our ocean waters.

Fish oil - Omega 3 - keeps your brain functional. 60% of our brain is fat. If you miss out on the proper oils and fats, your brain will cease to function. No fat diets is probably one of the worst things we can do.

We love olive oil, butter, coconut oil. And take some fish oil every day - with breaks in between where we take none for a week or so. You can become allergic to the best and most expensive coconut oil, as happened to a friend of mine just recently. If whatever you take causes the body to work and detox, at one point it becomes a burden to the system and it will no longer want it, i.e. react allergic to it (without your knowing it - it just won't do its job or will block your autonomic nervous system). So take a break from everything ever so often. Change to other brands, stop taking it for a week/ten days. Even the best product will backfire if you oversaturate the body with it.

Only organic - heavy metals are stored in the fats of animals - people store their metals in fat - in the fat layers of their skin. Heavy people are often very toxic - they don't detox - they just store them (often using the wrong detox methods). The body protects itself and finds many ways to do it -- in cholesterol, in candida/fungi - or bodyfat.

Take care.

Also, consider getting a bottle of phosphatidylcholine, which comes in gel caps. Some of the more reputable vitamin companies sell literal tubs of it, like 250 capsules per bottle.

Here are Dr. Burrascano's recommendations on oils from the ILADS site:

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS (required)
Studies show that when EFAs are taken regularly, statistically significant improvements in fatigue, aches weakness, vertigo, dizziness, memory, concentration and depression are likely. There are two broad classes: GLA (omega-6 oils) and EPA (omega-3 oils), derived respectively from plant and fish oils. This is what to take:

Plant Oils: borage oil, evening primrose oil, or black currant seed oil (choose one). Do NOT use Flax seed oil!

Fish Oil: Omega-3 (Fish Oil) capsules, 1000 mg per capsule. Use ``Optimum Omega'' by Pharmanex, if a higher quality product is desired, or to minimize the ``fishy'' aftertaste. http://www.pharmanexusa.com/cgi-bin/pxweb/product/en/ns_productDetail.jsp?content_id=01003103&spons_ID=US0668509

Marine Omega (only $10 if you order it with LifePak on a monthly basis) http://www.pharmanexusa.com/cgi-bin/pxweb/product/en/ns_productDetail.jsp?content_id=01101868&spons_ID=US0668509

Flaxseed oil disrupts the hormone balance in a certain way - in both men and women. I do not know the exact details, but next chance I can ask my next twenty questions from my doctor, I will find out.

Things change. And if the internet said it yesterday, it may not hold true any longer today.

Take care.
