No sugar is no. one on my list. I also use psyllium and bentonite clay, mised with juice or water to clear and heal the gut. There are menay herbs that help: Olive Leaf Extract, Oil of Oregano, Grapefruit Seed Extract (not really an herb), for example.
Go to wholeapproach.com. That is a website that is dedicated to the topic. I used their protocol to clear a bad Systemic Candida problem I had.

I avoid sugar and simple carbs but do eat some complex carbs such as oatmeal, yams, etc. I guess some will have yeast no matter what they do, unfortunately.
Since you mentioned topical agents, I assume you're referring to outside-the-body problems. I've had a little bit of a problem with underarms and groin area breaking out occasionally. This started when I re-joined the gym which causes me to sweat more than just sitting at a desk all day.
I treat it with Lamisil as soon as it starts itching and use a medicated powder with a cornstarch base. I also take Nystatin and Probiotics. I take a Probiotics cap at night and mid-afternoon.
