Jake (18) and Jordan (14) have been ill for 5 1/2+ years. They have been treated for 3+ years. They are still struggling, they are too ill to go to school.

I was tested for Lyme on 12/20/04 through Igenex. I didn't test CDC positive but I had Lyme specific bands. I began treatment about 2 weeks ago after my 1st appointment with Dr C. My main symptoms are headache, sinus pain/pressure, insomnia, and shoulder/neck pain.

I asked Dr. C if I could have given my kids Lyme since I've had these symptoms for 25 years. He said we wouldn't know for sure but it is very likely. Jordan was sick a lot when he was younger. Jake was put on a preventative antibiotic when he was 1 or 2 years old to prevent ear infections. I'm thinking this prevented him from being so ill. Both kids had injuries right they got really sick.

We asked Dr. C if my husband should be tested. He asked about his symptoms and thought it would be a good idea. His main symptoms are allergies, headaches, and recently shoulder pain.

He was tested through Igenex and received his results today.

IGG:

18 ++
28 ++
30 ++
39 +/-
41 ++
45 +
58 ++
66 +/-
93 +

IGM:

18 +/-
39 +/-
41 +
45 +/-
58 +
66 +

Not surprising, but still disturbing to say the least! I'm so sorry! You're pretty highly positive in my book. But my book isn't the same as the CDC's.

How did your husband's test turn out?

Do you think you were born with it too? I hope you begin to improve soon!

Lymetoo,

The results I posted are my husband's results. His IGG is CDC positive and his IGM is equivocal.

I don't think I was born with it. I was healthy until I was 17 or 18 and started having really bad headaches.

I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is an endemic state.

pab,
So sorry to hear all this. It must be a nightmare for all your family is going and have to go thru. Hang in there because as we all know you 'sotans are the tuffest of the tuff. Have to be up dere!!!
Only consolation for a household of one, complications are less, BUT I highly dont recommend it, too quiet and uneventful.
Bet all four of you beat this and may you already be on the great road to recovery.
Well be thinking of you and wishing for the best for the best people in the world. I'm still --just don--

When it rains, it pours ! Unreal Pabs ! At least nobody will make a "wasted" trip to Dr. C's.
How are the boys doing ? Did you find a neuro that knows something ?

Wisconsin ? Ticks ?

Just go to St. Joseph's in Marshfield. Don't you know that according to their head ID Quacker, lyme is easy to diagnose, shouldn't be treated clinically, unless you get a postive test then 3-6 weeks of doxy.

Funny though, if you exhibit massive lyme symptoms, and their bloodwork is negative, then you have Epstein-Barr virus.

I would have to recommend Marshfield for your husband and yourself. You'll be cured in 6 weeks, max !

Jordan has an appointment in early May with a neurosurgeon at Gillette Children's. This doctor diagnosed Jordan with intracranial hypertension in 2001. Because he is a surgeon, Jordan was referred to a neurologist.

I'm waiting for him to call us to let us know if he will see Jake (Jake is 18).

Jordan had a lumbar puncture on 2/4. His opening pressure was 275 which is high. They drained fluid to bring it down to 140. A lot of his symptoms were better after the LP but now have come back.

Jake had a lumbar puncture on 3/14. He had a lot of back pain and developed a spinal headache. He said today that his headache has been a 6-8 since the LP. Before the LP it was a 9-10.

Jake's opening pressure was 130 which in the normal range.

I still think increased intracranial pressure is the cause (or part of the cause) of their headaches.

pab,
Sorry to hear your husband is sick now to! Two of us in our family that have been tested are positive, my 3 1/2 and me.

I need to get my 1 year old tested, because I've been breastfeeding her most of her life.

My husband also wants to get tested, he is always tired and has a pain in his chest near his ribs that isn't really diagnosed or going away.

We live in MA, but just moved here from MN last year. I think my daughter and I were infected by ticks in our backyard. Not sure though, never saw the tick, just the rashes.

Glad he will be seeing an LLMD.

Sounds like you're on the right track with the boys. Now, if you could just find a way to keep that pressure down and stabilized.

If I remember correctly, this was their last big hurdle symptom to feeling well ? You guys will make it, you're getting closer.
Good luck, and keep us posted. You and your's are in our prayers over here in cheeseland.
Mike

Pab, sorry to hear about you and your husband. At this point, in our house, it's me and three kids ages 12-18. Hard not to come to certain conclusions regarding transmission.

I am very interested to know that with Jake, you still feel his headache could be due to intracranial pressure, even with a normal LP.

As you know, my daughter has also had a long-term headache (since Jan.6, 2003, not as long as your kids') and she always complains that it feels "swollen." Tonight I felt the top of her head, and I swear it felt squishy, just like she says.

He LP two years ago was also normal.

She seems to have a lot of fluid retention and puffiness everywhere- does either of your sons have this?

BTW my daughter had an endoscopy this week and it showed extensive yeast in her stomach and esophagus. It will be interesting to see if treatment helps her headache, although we have pretty much given up the idea that anything will help.

I feel for your kids and for you and your husband- hang in there!

NP40 - they have other symptoms, but I'm finding increased pressure can cause a lot more than a headache (vision problems, light sensitivity, insomnia, back pain, pulsing in the ears, etc.)

After Jordan's LP on 2/4, his headache was better, he was less light sensitive, less irritable, the pulsing in his ear was gone, itchiness went away and his sense of smell was better. Those symptoms are back now.

Lyddie - I didn't think my kids have fluid retention. At the last appointment with Dr. C, he asked Jake how long in has had edema in his legs. Jake didn't know he had edema. Jake was on Cortef and I think that could have been the cause.
