My son was bite by a tick that has a spot on

his back about the size of a quarter. I

started putting triple antibotic cream on

it. What signs should I look for before

he needs to go to the doctor? The tick that

bite him had the spot on his back.

My husband's brother just went to the doctor

for a tick bite that turned black. He is now

on antibotic's for 21 days. I've noctice

tick's are really bad this year. My son

hasn't had fever or anything just a big

welp where the tick was.

You got a sign, I didn't. Get him to the Dr. ASAP,preferable Lyme literate.

your best bet is dr. c in sprinfield. Many here go to him. Most docs do not treat strong enough or long enough for a tick bite.

My son was 6 when he had a dog tick on the nape of his neck. Took him to the pediatrician who swore that dog ticks don't carry disease, had him tested (Quest) negative, took the tick to the board of health...Started with headaches a few months later, needless to say, he was put on antibiotics for 2 1/2 years because it was overlooked. He's now 10 years old, recently off antibiotics and has unexplained hearing loss. Don't wait. Just put him on antibiotics asap for your own peace of mind that you did your part and know that there are few docs that will treat unless you insist. He already has the rash, just insist on the antibiotics.

You need a lyme specialist for this now, not a regular doctor.

Sounds like it was a lonestar tick, which carries a type of germ that is a cousin of Lyme disease and can cause just as many problems, but comes up negative on tests. This is because there aren't any tests that look for antibodies to this bug. It is still sort of in the discovery stage and hardly any docs are going to realize the tests won't work on it.

This is why I agree with the other posters above that you need to go to a lyme specialist pronto. It is a situation of catching it early or being in a heap of trouble.

Lyme spirochetes replicate every 3-5 wks. You need to be on antibiotics for at least 6 wks to make sure you got every single bug. You don't want your son [or brother-in-law] to become chronic like so many of us here.

You can send the tick to be tested, but I would first put him on antibiotics. The tick testing will take about 3 wks.
